Today was one of those crazy everything happens days...
We had a few pranks around the place. Like the PAC popcorn sale - the ladies told us the popcorn machine had overheated and there would be no popcorn but the popcorn was delivered at the usual time. The morning announcements mentioned that the students were not to throw snow!
The students caught my pranks and were not impressed and did not believe me when I told them band was cancelled for April to accommodate more math (not true!)
I always love to hear about West Jet's newest pranks for April 1st - always remembered the one where West Jet floated the idea of kids being checked in with the luggage!!
So what else?
Laura Barron a visiting artist worked with us on our first session for the Biennale project, it was Taylor's birthday (thanks to Mrs. Dawson everybody celebrated with a bag of popcorn), choir kick off at lunch, we had a fire drill and a computer lab session that found the printer which had been down since April 14th spew out all the papers it did not print since March 14th before we were able to retrieve our work from this afternoon!! It just kept going and going....and going!
Reminders
A couple of letters will be distributed tomorrow for parents to know what we are planning with the grade six and seven digital workshops (this Friday and next Monday) and for permission to take part in the Biennale project before it gets fully underway. Both Mr. Parker's class and my class will be involved.
No spelling this week
Hoodie payments
Our day
Band class
Session #1 with Laura B.
Today we started with a kinesthetic activity which used memory for colours and patterns
Then we discussed heritage - I hope that tonight there may be some conversations with family members about family heritage and culture and where grandparents are from
The activity we started was to use the letters of our last name (family name) to create a collage of words, phrases or sentences to try to capture the qualities or ideals that our family shares.
Popcorn celebration
Happy Birthday, Taylor
Read to self new reading record was distributed
Computer session - used time to look on the internet using our last names (surnames) to find out the history of the name and its origins
Back to class before the fire drill at 2:45
After the drill we joined another couple of classes at the outdoor structure and we chatted and enjoyed the sunshine. Thanks for the coffee, Mrs. E. Sure was appreciated at the end of the day.
I think the drill went well- we are getting faster at getting out the door and our students respect the need for a head count and check for anyone missing. Thanks everyone. Hopefully if there ever is a need to be evacuated for a real fire we will all be safe and all accounted for as quickly as possible.
Good news - the scholastic order finally arrived and will be distributed tomorrow
Have a nice evening.
Mrs. J.
