Welcome back after Spring Break March 31st
Hope everyone enjoyed a two week break from all things school. I had a productive couple of weeks and managed to finally get around to doing a few things that had been on the 'backburner'. It was nice to have the time.
We were back in business today and it was such a beautiful day too that we decided to wander over near the day's end to visit the Brazilian artist, Hugo Franca, who was busy carving the tree trunks at the far corner of the school today. Some other classes from HSSS had the same idea. His team seemed to be excited and encouraged by the interest in the project and lots of photos were taken.

Our day
daily French (quick one)
Phys Ed - it is easy to tell that the students have been sitting (some of them) too much these last two weeks. We did an extended warm up and played some cooperative movement games before spending the last ten minutes with the basketballs.
due to a very busy April - I photcopied everyone their own calendar and we filled it in for the activties that we need to pre-plan for preparation.
Then we completed an activity that had the students decide between two words to 'describe' their personality i.e.
chocolate or vanilla
rock or feather
milk or pop
we will be following these ideas up later this term.
Math vocabulary crossword puzzle to review the langauge of measurement and geometry
Math Ninja explained (a daily puzzle for students to try thier hands at solving)
Why choose math in High School essay
read to self (collected the reading records for March)
Science Lab
Solid matter to liquid to gas - three states of matter lab
using an Efferedent tablet in both warm water for one container and vinegar in the other, we experimented with how long gassy explosions took to 'blow'.
we took our messy lab out into the undercover area - some students found it difficult to be patient waiting for the vinegar to create enough gas to blow the conntainer lid off and with the sounds of the
screams when the containers did explode you might have thought we were in great danger. Everyone wore their safety glasses which was recommended for the propensity of some to will an explosion when leaning directly over the container (not recommended).
We all survived at least everyone was accounted for.
We returned to class to explain the science and discuss the results - then we watched a similar alka-seltzer experiment and some different variables and catalysts for other labs which create gas from Co2.
Then we packed up and took the last 20 minutes watching the procedings of the artist creating structures from and slavaging trees for an art installaton in Squamish.
good first day back
Thanks for coming back...
have a good evening- soccer time
Mrs. J.
