Wednesday April 2nd

Lots to tell you...

Grade 6/7 Hoodies were distributed today- a couple of students did not get the correct size so we are sorting out the mix up and the order will be correctly filled- 4 students have payments remaining.

letters, one for information on the I-girls and I-guys workshops this Friday and next Monday, and another looking for a signature for permission to take part in the media part of the Biennale program, were sent home today.
Permission form is due back for next Tuesday April 8th

we are shuffling our daily routine to accommodate the visiting artist so today we had a shorter math session in the afternoon and took the last session of the gym - thanks to Madame Miller's class for the switch

our day

journals at the ready to follow up the family heritage and culture activtiy that we started yesterday

Laura led the class from 9:30-10:30 in another interesting activity which showed where our grandparents came from and how we spread out across the globe
we discussed what representations of culture we use and asked the students to
*talk to parents and grandparents if possible to establish hertitage - we would also like to include all the Native Band names correctly spelled!!
*to research the family name (we started this at computers yesterday) and try to find a qualities that fit the letters that the family shares
*to bring a photo or concrete item next week that would allow us to do an oral narrative activity sharing our diverse cultures (show and tell)
it can be a dance or a recipe or a song or a picture or an heirloom although I would recommend not to bring expensive pieces- maybe take a picture and e-mail it to me and I can show it on the digital overhead!!

We worked on a personal flag design incorporating the elements of our activtiy which led us to looking up many different flag colours and designs around the world and family crests/coat of arms- the students actually worked for the rest of the morning on this research and design activity and some excellent progress was made.

lunch time boys floor hockey practice

read to self
Scholastic flyers were distributed for May orders
all students who ordered last month have received their orders now

Math switch
Math 7 Time Zones around the world
an activity that had the students learn the history of the creation of Standard time. A review of lines of latitude and longitude at 15 degree intervals and the time zones in Canada, GMT Greenwich Mean Time and the South Pole.
we completed the session with yesterday's West Jet prank for April Fools - you should check it out it is called 'metric time'. Too funny!

Phys. Ed.
floor hockey and a variety of equipment and outdoor activites to end the day

hoodies were distributed in the gym
word to the wise:
as the hoodies are all the same colour and print, it would be a really good idea to write your initials on the inside tag. Then the hoodie can be identified as yours. Last year the weather was so nice that the hoodies came off and were all left in a pile and no one knew which was their specific hoodie. Initials please.

See everyone tomorrow- wow! it is Thursday already!
Mrs. J.
