Oh lord- save us from the pre-break blues!
Of course, there has to be a weather change today because we had a beautiful week and that just will not do for a two week spring break- cue the white stuff (which is okay if you plan to ski I guess)!!
Reminder
take the next two weeks off please
rest, read and relax
prepare for a fast term three April-June
Happy Spring Break
Our day
First we had to host the Kindergarteners as they frantcally searched for Mrs. Paxton (who was apparently defending her gold, that she had stashed in her office (to pay her teachers!). The leparachuns cut her a deal because they knew how important it was to pay the teachers so they convinced our principal to dress up and be their Leprachaun Queen Principal. She was dressed accordingly and the excitement of the Kindergarteners could be heard all over the school.
We did a major term 2 desk, bin and classroom clean which was rather chaotic but made for good, 'clean' end to the term. We even found the missing library books (which gets my name of the hit list of teachers with books to return!!) and some MIA pieces and activities that we were sure were already handed in- "Oh, I think that was my second copy". Really?
Then we voted on a class movie choice- Percy Jackson: The Sea of Monsters
During the showing on the digital overhead we had a healthy feast of veggie platter, sugar cookies decorated for St Patrick's Day. I made a punch (not spiked- although some stduents asked!!) and we sat back and enjoyed the digital monster show!! Percy Jackson has lots of allusion to Greek mythlology but some of the students are adamant that the book is better than the movie.
thanks to
Bobby, Kayleigh, Taylor (and Mrs. Dawson) for the veggies and the yummy dill dip
Bobby and Kayleigh for the help with the cookies and the decoration
Mrs. Dawson for the sugar cookies
Max for the home made cookies and the chips
Autumn for her Pot O'Gold chocolate treat
and to my classroom helpers who made sure everyone was served and that there was a cup with everyone's name on it.
read to self - saw us completing the movie and some read while some worked on art pieces for tesselations with Mr. parker (Gr. 6 math) and the clothing project for French.
computer session
I wanted everyone to word process and print their paragraphs but ,of course, the printer was already on vacation and some students decided to stay with Mrs. Wolfe in class. The best laid plans....
back in class we organized a term end sharing circle to make a serious effort to reflect on the last few weeks (work, behviour and atmosphere) and plan to change how the general behaviour and relationships have been....Mrs. Paxton joined us and we had a very interesting session together. In the circle students responded to either "I noticed..." or "I wish..."
The students commented on many of the things that they were finding disruptive and challenging including name calling, use of devices when they were not supposed to use them, disruption/interruption of classroom learning and general disrespect of one another, adult intervention and equipment.
It was a postive experience to share how these issues were making us all feel and how rhey impact us and make plans to change this after the break.
I am not too sure if revisiting (or redoing) our class charter would have an impact but I will be drawing up a different seating plan over the break and we will work together to ensure a more positive experience for learning and socializing together.
It was time to count down to the bell 5...4...3...2...1
and out the door they went.
Hope everyone has a happy, safe and relaxing Spring break.
Thank you to EK who stayed to help with some leftover class clea up (the recycling bins and the chairs) much appreciated
Mrs. J.
