Tuesday March 11th (early dismissal)

Another quick day helped along by a 2pm dismissal for parent-teacher interviews...I am getting a jump start on the posting today as we are sepnding ther last 15 minutes this afternoon in the computer lab.

information in sentences to create interesting variations on sentence formation to make one's writing more effective.
Consider the following example...

" I argued with my sister." simple sentence
" I had an argument with my sister who became angry and cried." compound sentence
" I expected tears and anger from my sister when we argued but instead she was silent."
variation of a more complex sentence...

"Tears and anger I had expected, after the argument with my sister, but the silence surprised me."

The students are working on creating a paragraph about their favourite healthy activity using varied sentence structures to write an effective and unified paragraph.

My biggest challenge is convincing the students to use the formula EVERY time they do an exmaple. many were forgetting to divide by 2 because they were not writing the formula before the work and therefore were actually finding the area of a parallelogram!

one of my students just alerted me to the fact that it is now time to go - we were all so engrossed in our 'free time"
