Thursday March 13 but getting Wednesday 12th in too!!

Thanks for the positive parent-teacher interviews on Tuesday evening.
We won the playoffs too so that was a nice bonus. My curling season is over this weekend.

Apparently the Purdy's orders are due Friday- my bad- communication reagarding this was not clear and I apologize for misleading my students. If you would like an order for Easter please put the form in tomorrow! Sorry.

Wednesday March 12th

our day yesterday

language- making every effort to complete the language writing activtiy this week so we arenoit trying to re visist it after the two week break that is coming up fast.
We spent more time doing the rogh copy of the on-topic paragraph (varying sentence structures lesson).
One thing the students will nedd to be confident with as they move on into middle school (I mistyped "muddle school" and that kind of seems apprpritate, n'est ce pas?) is being able to write an extended paragraph (or composition) on topics in English and Social studies among other subjects.

Term three (after spring break) I will be focussing on writing (and vocabulary use) in langauge lessons.

French - introduction to four possibilities for the unit on clothing in French.
Students can chose from the following:
a poster (affiche) which is prescribed and directed or
a wardrobe (armoire) in which they create a personal wardrobe of clothing
a paper doll 'show' (pouppee du papier) whee they design clothing poices to 'dress' the dolls and 'show' them in a 'fashion run'
OR for those so inclines (that do not feel confident with drawing peopel and clothing- a collage of clothing from magazines) all labelled as per the other projects.
It was interesting to see how quickly each individual took to the project that they felt suited them best- every option was snapped up :)

Math Area of triangles re- visited and yesterday's work reviewed.
Work sheet: Whats's your Angle - putting the skills to work in a review type activity- want this one handed in and I will use it instead of a quiz (again do not want to be testing these skills after two weeks off!!)
Computer lab session: on-line quiz for Ch3
Was a bit deflated when the students explained to me how they were 'cheating' the system and finding out the answers by answering them quickly without reading so the correct answers would show up and then they could redo the quiz and do well without actually reading and considering the questions asked !! So much for using technology.

read to self - for many it became paper airplane folding (origami style)

Our class met with Laura Barron our artist in residence- after spring break, Mr. Parker's class and ours will be collaborating with classes from HSSS on a Bienele project incorporating writing, art, music and an art 'installation'

phys Ed
first part of the session we all had a chance to fly our paper airplanes
Then we broke into small groups for basketball layups - it was a bit of an unfocussed gym session but the last day for the basketball unit and it seemed most students were too tired to play an organized game so I let it go....

Art to finsh the day- some still have a bit of painting to do on their landscapes and most were into the French clothing project so the day seemed to end kind of abruptly as I lost sight of the time and it was dismissal time before we knew it...

Thursday, March 13th

Language: complete the rough copy of the paragraphs for w/p tomorrow

Literature Circle- Quotations today- each novel group has a specific quotation for discussion in their lit circle reading groups- not sure how successful that was! Will need to look into how to make discussion more effective -time probably and a bit more direction????

band class

math 7 groups today- looking at reviewing and extending the skills of determining angles and finding area of parallelograms and triangles

read to self

personal planning session (hormonezRus) 10-15 minutes quick look at how hormones are the 'canary in the mine' of our health ans wellness

Art
time for projects

palnning to take the students out with Mr. Parker's class for a game of Stones in the back field but I remembered that we were to have an earthquake drill this afternoon complete with an evacuation (maybe we can take out things and play once that is over)

never a dull moment around here!!
having a celebration tomorrow with some veggies and dip, cookies and a bowl of punch to see us into spring break. If you wish to send something along that would be appreciated but there is no need to (I left it to the last minute on purpose because sometimes it become all too much) so no worries.

anyway have a good evening.
Mrs. J.
