Tuesday Feb 11th and Wednesday, Feb 12th

Good grief!
What a crazy couple of days... Last night, after school the Don Ross committee for transition of the students to Middle school this fall met with Mr. Parker, Mrs.Masterson and myself to discuss the needs and supports that we feel are important to have on place. Rest assured that the Don Ross staff have your children's best interests at heart.
Then, it was onto curling so no time for posting to the blog last night. We lost our game too!!

Today I started the day with a 'drama' at home -  for some reason (which turned out to be a leaking down pipe which froze water under the garage door's rubber contact) my garage door would not open and I could not override the automatic door lift. I started to get into a panic at 8:25am. Luckily (?) my son missed the school bus and came back home. He settled me down and helped with the problem but by the time we got down the icy driveway, we were both late (not by much but late is late!). After school we had a monthly staff meeting - then dinner and driving my son to an activity and so I finally have just sat down at 8:20pm.
Tomorrow morning  I am on duty so I am scared to close the garage door just in case!

So, enough about you, Mrs. J....what's going on in the class you ask...

Reminders
Please ask to see the Don Ross registration and schedule forms that went home on Tuesday- they are due back to school for this Friday Feb. 14th
Good news- the FSA assessment sections are completed (except for a few students who have been away)
Any parents interested in attending camp in May?

Today's activities

Spelling prep (for Friday this week being a short week)
Unit 9 and M challenge words - that reminds me to provide the students with an extra sheet for study

SRA reading program - reading comprehension and word work at level
Encouraging students to complete currency levels and challenge the next

Math 7 today we completed the two 4 mark problem solving activities for the final section of the FSA assessment
Yeah - it is over for this year (only a few absent students who need to make up some sections)

Keeping track of who is and is not completed the various sections is a full time job of its own!!

Math 6 with Mr. Parker
The grade sixes are working on area and perimeter in math.

Read to self
Drop in
Scholastic flyers for March have arrived - there were 4 birthdays in jan and 5 in March - I have a $5 coupon for every student (those with summertime birthdays are encouraged to order during the year)

Physical Education new game today
The students did very well listening to and following the directions to play a few rounds of Four Corner soccer - thank-you to Cynthia (Ab Ed assistant) for her help with the class while I had to take
care of a management/ behavior issue and thank you to the students who just got on with the game
and had fun :)
Luckily we had about 15 minutes extra time in the gym in which we played chain tag - the students

seemed to enjoy both the game and the extra time.

Back in class I shared the results of a survey that we did last week asking about the students communication with parents for the personal planning unit on body health - I will share the results in a newsletter to parents soon - just haven't had the chance to get around to composing it yet. I was not really surprised with the results but it confirms why we need to include this unit in the Health and Career section of the curriculum!
I know that I am being very cryptic here but I promise more information soon in both to he Blog and the newsletter. Just need some time!

Dismissal time

Staff meeting in which we were reminded that the term 2 report cards are due into the office on Feb. 28th!! Oh my!
Didn't we just celebrate Christmas and new year?

Tuesday, Feb 11th (really quickly)

Math 7 FSA multiple choice on-line section (computer lab)

Mr. Parker took the grade sixes to the meeting with Mr. Thompson from Don Ross 1-2pm
I accompanied the grade sevens for the same meeting later in the afternoon 2-3pm

Mr. Parker had the grade sixes all afternoon and I had the grade sevens!
Just a quick thanks for split classes - I love my grade sixes! They keep me sane :)
