Feb 6th and 7th together

Lots of meetings....
There will be more next week

I am having trouble keeping up with it all but hopefully this weekend I will be able to rest a bit more to fully recover from the bronchitis that has been playing havoc with my energy. It has been a challenging week but we have all survived.

Reminders
Monday is family day a new stat holiday - no school
Tuesday Feb. 11th hot lunch orders are due
Also on Tuesday Mr.Thompson will be visiting the grade six and seven students to discuss timetable options for Don Ross Middle School
Grade seven students will be completing the last two sections of the FSA assessments by Feb 21st

Our day today

Spelling tests

Made some time to catch up on incomplete assignments (science, language, mapping activity, art and well, let me just say a couple of students needed serious assistance to get their work organized!) while we watched the opening ceremony of the Olympics.
The opening ceremony was very Cirque du Soleil like - it wasn't until later that I heard the director of the opening ceremony in Sochi was indeed connected to Cirque du Soleil!
The students seemed to enjoy it and some even stayed in at morning break to watch it!

Math 7
looking at the practical uses of understanding circle geometry using the example of the newer Ferris wheel (installed in 2006) at the PNE which was 33% bigger than the former ferris wheel (the one that had been in operation since 1928). We looked at the circumference of the wheels and the increase in ridership, worked out the percentage increase of the wheel size, considered the profits for
the PNE and discussed whether the cost of new rides was worth it for the profits earned.

Read to self
Drop-in

DPA it was actually warm in the sun this afternoon so we took to the fresh air for a half hour playing a variety of group games : frisbee, beasketball on the outdoor court, soccer and uses of the spiderweb apparatus (before the snow flies?)

Back in class we completed (well some did) a variety of activities that we were working on this morning and cleaned up for the long weekend before playing a class word game (some students wanted me to try a game called 'flappy bird'!! however, it was on their devices...I did allow a few to try it during the end of the day but it is not a game that I have a steady enough hand to be good at and not one we will be making an integral part of our daily activities!!)

Have a good Family Day long weekend
See everyone Tuesay Feb 11th

Thursday Feb 6th

Mapping skills countries of Asia - some had a science activity to complete
Band class
Math 7 groups today after the cheesy tale of Sir Cumference and the first Round Table
Math 6 with Mr.  Parker
Read to Self/Drop in
Phys Ed basketball scrimmage - boys had a game after school
Art encouraging the students to conclude the activities that we have had ongoing so we can get them displayed and move on to some new creative ventures.
The Egyptian fashionista work looks amazing and the students learned to write their names in hieroglyphics, the multi layered sandwiches are crazy (one sandwich has a watermelon in one layer!) and the Who am I? collage posters are really interesting.

Dismissal 3:04pm
