I thought about posting last night but I am actually glad I held off because yesterday I was considering that maybe it was time for a career change after a challenging afternoon!!
On reflection though I needed the time to consider how to support the rest of my students and realized that it is only one or two who need to be 'reigned in'.
So.... I decided instead to use the time to be more proactive instead of just whining! I started by calling a few parents- thank you for your support, setting up a new seating plan with minimal student input, arranging a back up plan for accommodating a couple of students in other colleague's classes and presented it all to my students today. Result - much better day - back on track- no need to raise my voice to be heard and I believe a much friendlier and comfortable day in general.
Happy birthday to Max and. Big happy 60th to our teaching assistant Mrs. Dawson.
It helped that I had a curling game last night too and that our team played well - we needed that win and it was working together that clinched it for us. By 10 pm last night I decided it was a bit too late to post.
So to today Wednesday
Reminders
just have one more Grade 7 schedule for the DRS registration papers - thank- you to all my grade six and grade seven parents who managed to get them in so quickly- it was a quick turn around because DRS would like to run schedules before spring break to get a look at how many classes and teachers they may need for next year.

Have I confused you too?

Then the 'wheels fell off'....
Personal Planning - activity was looking at what a stereotype was using a partner 'graffiti' activity - I had to cut it short (maybe it was the nature of the activity, the snow, the effect of the full moon, the hormones) I am not sure but I had to collect the assignments and change my afternoon plans.
I thought perhaps a break from being in a desk and chair (getting up and trying a cooperative game in the classroom) might help but a couple of students seemed to just not be able to stop being impulsive and disruptive. I tried to persevere and truthfully the rest of the students did okay.
We finished the day with a look at the new seating plan and a reading session before dismissal.
It was a challenging afternoon and I was feeling a bit deflated but once I had had a chance to reflect, it was clear what needed to be done to support the rest of my students.
And there you have it folks. Back on track!
Thanks for understanding the ups and downs of nailing jelly to the wall!
Have a great night
Mrs. J.
