Whew!

Our day in a nutshell

Physical education
Led the students in a couple of high energy class games today after a warm up- some need to brush up 'teamwork' skills

Spelling return last week (by the way really good solid results - great effort being made)
Adjective activity for grammar and prep of the Unit 10 words looking for patterns and study suggestions- challenge group started the 'n' worksheet. The words are sometimes quite obscure but the students a re getting a great workout looking up and using the Oxford Canadian dictionary which to me is the most important skills associated with this activity. It makes my heart warm to see students use a good, old fashioned dictionary.

math 7 today we reviewed the units we have completed this far in Term 2 and looked ahead to where we are going and heat chapters we have left to complete next term for the math program. We organized re overflowing binders and then completed some work on finding the area of a circle in the textbook now that we have all the Key Ideas in our bag of tricks.
Chapter 8 practice

Only have a couple of students who need to make up missed sections of the FSA assessment - the good news is we are pretty much completed with the assessments for this year :)

Read to self

science hands on lab Mystery materials
It was a challenge this afternoon to keep the chattering from getting out of hand but the lab seemed to be a hit. The students had to inference the matter (contents) of 5 different vials which were sealed - they had to determine on instinct, weight and sound what the contens might be. The students filled in a chart ranking the weight, guessing the contents and making inferences (educated guesses).
They did well-  the results showed an average of 80% accuracy when we finally opened the vials.
This introduces the next concept of describing matter. This unit in science has a very specific vocabulary and some math thrown in for good measure (forgive the pun- I did not try to do that it just happened!)

After science we read an article for personal planning about how hormones can play havoc with adolescent mood and emotions and how they can confuse us (parents and teachers) and how they might find themselves to be little imbalanced emotionally when they are growing so fast into young men and women.

We then finished the last 15 minutes of the Wimp Kid movie (Dog Days) that we started on Friday and started a new Read aloud called ...
"Dear Goerge Clooney, Please marry my mother !" No kidding!
It is by the same author of Word Nerd (Susin Neilson)

Busy Monday
See everyone Tuesday - remember band class first thing music and instruments!

Friday valentine's day
We had a fun day together on Friday and after a bit of morning work like the spelling unit tests and a. French activity for valentine's day, we watched the end of the hockey game from Sochi into snack

We did math 7 and math 6
The grade sevens worked on finding the area of a circle using formula and checking accuracy of solutions to two decimal places - I was impressed at the good effort and work.

Lunch time valentine's dance in the gym - it was hopping and busy!

Read to self (trying to calm everyone down aftert he dance was interesting!)

Thanks to Mrs. Dawson who celebrated my birthday early with a cake and some chocolate milk (I t was a nice surprise) I really appreciated the card written and signed by every student. Thank- you those little things are so special- I am very humbled.

Also thank you to all the students who brought loving wishes and things to share. We all enjoyed Mrs. Costa's chocolate covered Valentine's themed marshmallows - so simple but effective- very cool and sweet (sorry)

At 2pm we started the movie Diary of a A wimpy Kid
Many of the students have read the book so they knew and seemed to be engaged and enjoy the movie version.

We packed up with a promise to finish the movie Monday - about 15 minutes left.
It was a Loving kind of day at Squamish elementary
Hope everyone had a nice weekend despite the storm.

Oh, and Canada won the hockey game :)
Gotta get to soccer practice
Mrs. J.
