Math 6 with Mr. Parker
Math 7 Groups today
Just a reminder that the intention of the small groups once a week is to provide some intensive math instruction and practice at different levels (some need review, some more practice and other extension of skills). Hopefully, this will increase math confidence and improve individual results.
Today we all worked on the structure of problem solving together. I was impressed at how well the students discussed the math concepts together - we had some interesting discussions about different methods for various examples and I was even corrected by my students who noticed that my 'short cut' for one multiplication wasn't accurate!! Love it.
Similar experiences were reported for all the groups today which is encouraging.
For FSA we discussed the structure of writing a three paragraph written answer: Intro, development and concluding paragraphs. We will continue the assessment sections next week.

Personal planning
A look at timelines and general milestones from birth to (believe it or not) 50 years old!!
The intent was to create a visual reference for students to try to grasp the concept of how our lives can be 'charted' from generation to generation.
In the generation after the second world was the 'baby boomers' parents' lived in a world in which they were completing school, working and getting married in their late teens and early twenties and having generally larger families.
This is in contrast to the current generation who are completing education sometimes into their late twenties and spending longer dating - marriage and family are generally on hold until early to mid thirties. The student noticed that in that case by the time their potential children were ready to graduate high school they would be in their 50's.
The Day after Tomorrow
After reviewing how this movie represents the science, we started the movie for science - about 20 minutes enough to give them an idea of the characters and the premise of the plot. We will finish it tomorrow and complete an observation sheet on the connections to science.
We packed up five minutes early to go out and enjoy some afternoon sunshine.
Dismissal from the school yard today.
Have a good night.
Mrs. J.
