Journal write regarding class field trip possibilities this year.
Organizing trips with this age group can be tricky as interest, commitment and sometimes cost are all pertinent factors. I like to offer a variety of options and have the students provide me feedback without them feeling peer pressured into certain choices. Once I have had a chance to read the replies I will let everyone know what the interests are this year.

FYI We are committed to a three day grade 6/7 camp at Evans Lake for Mr. Parker's class and ours in May, 2014 (we needed to send confirmation before the end of November if we wanted the same dates as last year).
There is no obligation to attend if it is not something a student (your child) is comfortable with but it has always been a great way to end the year with paddle boarding and canoes on the lake, climbing instruction and practice on a safe, carefully belayed cliff, survival in the forest (building shelters and making fires as well as recognizing what to eat and what not to touch), archery and swimming in Evans lake. Campfires end each evening and bonds are formed among students who might not have taken the opportunity to get to know each other in school.

9:30-10:30
Cyber  bullying presentation
Mrs. Sherlock our school librarian conducted a workshop on the issues and consequences of use and misuse of technology which we will complete on Friday morning of this week. It is a real issue that many of our young people today are not getting enough sleep as they have reported taking their devices to bed with them and being awake and active on- line into the wee small hours in some cases connecting on social media.

Math 7 partner and class practice on using order of Operations with integers. The students did an amazing job- I was very impressed :)
Computer session on-line practice: IXL, MathLinks 7 website (class textbook) and Ministry FSA multiple choice numeracy practice.
FYI numeracy, reading and written skills will be tested by the Ministry in January and February of the new year (2014)

Physical Ed basketball scrimmages were a little wild today - I haven't quite figured out how to balance the class teams yet to create fair co-Ed skill levels. It is always a challenge with a split class. Some of the older boys can be ball hogs and seem to be blind to the girls waiting free for a pass! So everyone's calling for a pass and it can get a bit noisy in the gym. Some work to be done yet.

Back in class we continued work on our Christmas candy art projects.

We also said goodbye and a merry Christmas to Dylan and max who are off on early winter vacations.

See everyone tomorrow.
Band class - bring your instruments.
Mrs. J.
