Have 20 minutes before my dance class so here goes...
So sorry this post is so late tonight - I didn't get it done before my class!!
Reminders
No new homework tonight but the students who wanted to complete their science had the option of taking home their texts and working on the open book review of Chapter 1
Assembly for Remembrance Day at 11am tomorrow - we have been working to put together a special assembly
Remember that photo retakes are on Nov 13th and students need to bring a permission slip alerting the photographer to the problem with the first one so the second photo is a keeper
No school This Friday or Monday
Our Day
We started the morning with the students preparing the poppies for a class made paper poppy wreath for the assembly presentation tomorrow and while they were working I showed them the video tribute that I had chosen for this year's assembly to give the a chance to 'vet' it with me so to speak. (I swear that I do not look for these bad puns!)
Video choice for Remembrance Day must meet a number of expectations: not too violent or graphic for the younger audience, not too long, serious but touching and a nice melodious song to complement the meaning of the day.
I found a video tribute on Vimeo created by Jonathon Wagner which fitted all the categories and with the blessing of the students in class, we managed to get it downloaded for the assembly (thanks to Dylan and Braedan)
It takes a class of students to teach their teacher how to 'do' technology!!
We read to the last chapter of part 1 in our novel Touching spirit Bear (Kiarrah's mom told me how much she enjoyed it and one of the students asked why I had only read to Chapter 10 when the first section of the novel was so close and as I had no good answer I decided to read on and no one complained :)
The students certainly seem to be engaged in the story and it is a nice break for them to let me do the reading as it gives them the chance to follow, listen and imagine.
Math today was the last quiz for assessment in term 1 #6 on order of operations and I was impressed by how the students managed with it today - everyone completed it in approx half an hour allowing us a chance to get to a math computer session (which we missed last week).
I asked the students to self rate their confidence on the skills of BEDMAS on a scale of 1-5 (5 being the most confident) and there were a lot of 4 and 4.5's which is really encouraging.
Results soon- not sure if I'll get a chance to mark them tonight.

Record
Phys. Ed. Open gym session allowing a number of activities- the rules: safe, fun and everybody moving/being active. It was a successful session - I believe everyone had fun- it was fun for me to watch (spot) the boys who created their own slam dunk area on the stage using the three step risers to reach the basketball net and slam dunk the ball. You should have seen the sweat they worked up- made sure they drank enough water after gym.
At 2:30 Mrs. Paxton worked on a How many ways are you Smart activity to show students all the different learning modes and strengths of different learning styles.
This allowed Ms. Sorban and I to practice an assembly run through with the student readers and performers for tomorrow's assembly. We had a half hour and managed to get it all in - just.
I was grateful to get a run through before the real thing tomorrow.
It is our most solemn assembly of the year and while certain traditions of a Remembrance a Day
tribute at school remain the same there are little touches every year that make it a showcase of talent. The choir and performers have worked hard and sound great.
You are welcome to join us if you can.
The students were dismissed by Mrs Paxton tonight but I know she did planners. Sorry if some other things were overlooked. We will be back to business as usual soon.
Thanks for understanding.
Have a good what's left of the evening.
Mrs. J.
