Today was like a Friday due to the long weekend for the students and with the rain finally here the 'closed in' feeling of the fall into winter seasons has arrived too.
Reminders
long weekend
District Day tomorrow and Monday Nov 11th stat for Remembrance Day
No new homework
however, I have been encouraging students with anything incomplete or missed to take home the work and spend some time this weekend.
Teachers reports are due in on Friday Nov 15th
Photo retakes Nov 13th (bring permission slips back)
Our day...
Spelling Unit # 6 and challenge # 2
after some study
Language arts - a look at the roles and importance of the parts of speech for learning the building blocks of langauge.
We went from the students thinking there were as many as 24 parts of speech (?!) to reviewing 8 parts that are the grammatic 'lego' bits to building sentences and speech that makes sense.
A reference sheet of the roles and examples of each part of speech was distributed- we will be undertaking a study that breaks the parts of speech down in order to learn how to build them back up to create complex sentences and incorporate them into written work.
Band class
no math class today
but FYI the preliminary results on the Order of Operations quiz are very encouraging :)
Remembrance Day assembly
Thank-you to all the students readers, reciters, performers and to Mrs. Paxton and Madame Jensen who helped with the glitchy technology part.
Mrs. Paxton said the parents in attendance were very comlimentary of the assembly and our talented children. Ms. Sorban's hard work with the choir and the girls who played the Last Post and Rouse payed off big time- they were excellent.
Read to Self
record
believe it or not the students asked me for some organization time- I gladly obliged providing time for students to clean desks, bins, organize their homeless papers and find the missing or MIA activites I have not received from some of them...yet!
time for either posters for the competition due Nov 18th and/or completing activties not yet handed in.
Science - completed the visual look at the science that we are reading about in text using the BBC Blue Planet series- we finished the deep sea section. I am always amazed at how the students seem to get mesmerized by looking at the footage of the weird and wonderful creatures that inhabit the extreme environment of the deep ocean.
Planner and pack up time so we could all relax into a listen at chapters 18 and 19 of Word Nerd.
We left it at an exciting scene so it should be easy to pick up next week :)
Have a good long weekend
Mrs. J.
