Tuesday back to school Nov.12th
Back to school after a break like the one we have just had is like starting all over again- there were lots of stories, energy and some tired bodies!!
Interesting...

spelling Unit 7 and Challenge 3 are being tested Friday (due to the Monday stat)
any science that went home- please bring it back to class- you need your texts and I'd like to have time to assess your work
Hot Lunch day froms went home today- just!

Math 7

Start into the introductory activity for Percentages and fractions using a tangram worksheet which will be followed up Wednesday.
The question asked was to try to determine what part of the whole each section of the tangram was (it was cut into 6 pieces)- express it in percentages or fractions
read to self
allowed some catch up time today for students who had been away or had missed some activites that are for term 1 assessment.
record
computer session: BBC Egypt websites (check Brainboxx) and games for research and applying the ideas - for example Mummy Maker is a game in which the students become virtual embalmers and learn the steps of mummuification of an Egyptian pharaoh. There are lots of very interesting web sites and virtual adventure games on-line. I am making an effort to introduce students to resources that may be useful for individual interests and project work in the near future.
after returning to class I abandoned my original intention to do a personal planning activity as it was difficult to get 'fresh focus' at the day's end. Instead we did a divergent thinking activity which allowed them to brainstrom and share ideas in this case about ...How to completely burglar-proof your fancy mansion (money no object!!!)
You should have seen the ideas some inspired by movies and others video games but they were amazing and completely plausible (if a little scary, to be honest) but some students filled a page with these ideas and had some fun sharing them with each other (better than my originbal plan!) - I should get in touch with ADT and see if they could use some new ideas...it'll cost them though!!
we completed the day with a continuation of our class read aloud Word Nerd and I unfortunately read until the bell for dismissal rang and then had to back track and run around like a crazy person giving out the hot lunch forms and reminding everyone about photos tomorrow- Sheesh, you'd think I could get time management straight!!
See everyone tomorrow- missing a Monday throws me off for the whole week- wish us luck.
Mrs. J.
