June 6th Thursday already!!

Told you... this week will just disappear with the next three weeks! Slow down ...it's going too fast!

We had a funny kind of Thursday today...weather made it too warm in the classroom for teenange (and adult) brains to function well!

no new homework

Reminder
Topsy Turvey day tomorrow
mentor program is over for the year

First thing the students asked for was more time for their newspapers- I was impressed at the hush of work and productivity but at approximately 10 am I knew that it was time to switch gears as I could tell that the boys in particular were getting a bit restless and antsy (you can tell when they make a steady stream to the cloakroom looking for things to eat!!)

So I tried the French activity next but it was not as successful as I would have liked due to some difficulties of using a variety of French dictionaries!! However we are advancing the answers for the interview.

Math 7 was a challenge but we managed to assess booklet #1 together and I have promised a pass around set of solutions for Booklet #2  tomorrow - we are still at the skills of Measuring Central Tendency and the students are doing well enough with the skills but need a bit more practice and time to consider what the data suggests. Answering questions about which measurement would be the best fit (mean, median or mode) for the factory manager to prove he is paying a fair wage or what size of jeans a retail manager should order more of for inventory are challenging concepts for 12 year olds. Not a bad session overall.

Silent Reading (this has become an activity time too but reading is still being done)

Science
Plate Tectonics- completed the map activity from Monday today - well most managed - some had to start again and one pair gave up frustrated by glue and puzzle pieces that didn't fit into their 'world map'.
We analysed the under ocean maps of the sea floors for the Pacific, Arctic and Atlantic Oceans and the students were surprised at the mountains and deep caverns (abyss) under the oceans.
We watched a 10 minute documentary on Plate Tectonics and how the different movements of the earth's crust causes earthquake, volcano and tsunami activity in the world.

Drama- I ended the day with something that I probably wouldn't have been a able to get away with before camp last week- some Theatre sports- and I was pleasantly surprised at how the students took to some of the activties for each others' amusement. Today we did the Interviewer with silly hands skit and for the most part the students were good sports about taking part and being good audience members.

The day was done by 3:03pm
have nice evening
I have a band concert to attend at HSSS
