A week's hiatus- Wednesday June 5th already!

I didn't expect it would be a week before I posted again but it is the time of year that the time flies by and it seems there is so much to jam into the last month of school. We have our last staff meeting of the year tonight after school- never a dull moment!

June 3rd and 4th I attended a pre-consulatation meeting with admin and teachers from both elementary and Don Ross regarding possible changes to the configuration of a middle school model. It was very interesting and a unique opportunity to collaborate and discuss important aspects of the changing world of education in our district (and province).

Camp was a fabulous experience once again and we were very fortunate to have parent volunteers and staff who made the best of everything - even the rainy Wednesday. The students seemed to have fun and enjoy the three days. Everyone took part in activities and commented positively and enthusiastically on how much they enjoyed their camp days at Evans Lake in a Monday reflection journal.
Thank you all for supporting and appreciating Evans Lake Camp. It was fun for your teachers and parents to watch you try new things. I was impressed at how well many of you took to the paddleboards. Thanks to Zoila, Fred, Mike, Leanne, Kathy, Sandra - our fearless parent volunteersand the camp staff for their organization of the various activities, to the staff who brought our day tripper students each day and the hardy bus drivers who somehow manage to make it up the road to camp.
The effort and work that goes into the organization is always pays off and for that I would like to extend thanks to my colleague Matt who is an amazing 'jack of all tades' who derfinitely spreads homself too thin.
I hope the days away from school will help form a bit of a better bond between the students for the last few weeks.

Finally, many thanks to the PAC parents who catered a wonderful, tasty and delicious variety of food, fruit, goodies and laid on lunch for the staff today (Wednesday). We are very fortunate and really appreciate the special treat.

Our day Monday June 3rd
Assembly- dedication of the new playground
Newspaper time to read, research and write for the newspaper project
Journal reflection about best experience at camp- reading the student refelctions made me smile. Thank-you for your appreciation. :)
Math 7 Statistics: mode, mean and median
Silent Reading
Science - continental drift- 'puzzle' map of the world in pieces which first needed to be patterned together to represent the divide of the continents under the oceans and around the world. Partner activity (this activity is a scissors, glue and patience kind of activity- two are better than one in this case!). A model or guide page was proivided for some encouragement.
Thanks to my TOC Ms. Dragonov- thank you for a great job and your positive notes.

Tuesday June 4th
Physical Education outdoors Stones on the big field
Greek and RomanNewspaper project time
Math 7 more practice on statistics mode, mean, median and added range today

Thanks for another great day with Ms. Dragonov.

Wednesday June 5th today
Socials/language Arts: Newspaper time (I offered other options but the newspaper won out- and they worked very well on it too) some great creative ideas and content to the papers about ancient Greece and Rome. Everyone seems to have their role in the group and is busy' producing'. Finally manged to get to the school library for extra resources- books, maps, posters and internet connected information like the Usborne publication book:  Internet Connected Encyclopedia of the the Roman World
Band class
Math 7 practice of the mean mode and median on-line using the IXl website in the computer lab- funny how it seems to make more sense to them if it is on a screen!!
Silent reading
Phys Ed soccer on the outdoor field and basketball at the outdoor court
Art- dream vacation ideas- or 'free choice' as some asked for more time for their newpaper work others wanted more reading time- we were all so busy working away that we didn't realize how close it was to the dismissal bell
How sweet is that?
They ran out the door for home and I ran off to the staff meeting. Difficult to believe it is the last one of the year!
Have a good evening,
Mrs. J.
