I was on playground duty this morning and I could just tell the students were vibrating about the Topsy Turvy Day (School Spirit theme) that I had forgotten all about. Many were dressed inside out, upside down and variations of the like- some very creative- I even had difficulty recognising a couple of students!! I knew one thing- they had energy to spare and I didn't!!
No homework

Our day today...
Band class
Some honour Band students joined Madame Miller's class for an extended class this morning allowing me to do a small group activity and reading, thinking activity on the Bermuda Triangle.
Math 7 this morning we tried a grade 8 application using the measures of central tendency. The activity required students to make a decision as a team coach on which player to cut and which should make the golf team based on data. Interesting real life application.
As a coach, the students were able to use the data to make a decision and have some backing for whichever player they chose and commented how they could choose either player based on the data and use the data to verify their decision.
The more interesting discussion came from how they would feel if they were the cut player. Reactions ranged from embarrassed, angry, upset, sad, mad, not good enough etc. At the elementary school we tend to make the effort to accommodate everyone interested to be part of a team but in high school there will be tryouts and only so many players will fill a roster. I informally asked if students in the class would avoid tryouts because they didn't want to be cut and approx. 5 said they would rather not try out (which ,of course, I tried to discourage but there you are!).
Silent Reading- a variety of opportunities including reading was offered- they really needed a chance to be quiet and reflective (not listening to me or their classmates). It worked well thank goodness.
intermediate staff had a sports day meeting at lunch to discuss this year's organization
Computer session - extended thanks to Mrs. Fanzega's class being outside- this allowed us time to do some work on the Roman and Greek newspapaers as well as have a bit of free time.
Back to class for a clean up and lost and found fashion show!!
Some lost items were reunited with their owners- some had to be thrown out for health and safety and others will be lodged at the general lost and found in the school hall until claimed or forwarded to the local second hand store.
another faster than a speeding bullet kind of day
band practice after school by pre-arrangement with Ms. Sorban
Nice visit from some former students after school.
I'm offically feeling the burn- have a great weekend everyone.
Mrs. J.
