Monday May 27th

Funny (weird) day, Monday, n'est ce pas?
Weather was kind of moody and it was a challenge to keep students engagaed especially as they are already excited (or too cool) for camp! Oh my...

Homework
nothing new on the academic front
packing for camp and remembering payment (7 students) and responsibility forms
Reminders
sent home a letter from Teaghan's mom regarding the year end slide show for the grade sevens- please send or e-mail photos that you would like to share
Camp at Evans Lake
Leaving from the school at 9:15am on Wednesday 29th for three days at Evans Lake Camp and returning Friday May 31st at approx 2:45pm before the busses leave the school.

Our day...

News Teams for the ancient Greek/Roman newspaper project - a variety of textual references and resources were shared among the groups today in class and the teams met to decide on such details as who would be the editor, the name of their newspaper, the contents and who would be resarching and writing an article on what topic.
For the most part it was productive and interesting just not sure what level of noise is too much for concentration!!

Review of a paper layout using a template (although I am not encouraging the students to use the template if they have their own ideas). Need to provide instruction on the writing of a newspaper article Tuesday.

Math 7 much better results for the majority of students on the redo of the unit math test for area and perimeter. Of  the 22 who re-wrote, 20 passed (16 with a C+ or better) and only 2 are still struggling with the concept of using the formula. The class average improved from 46% to 70% so I am a happy 'camper' and was excited to share the good news with the students. They proved to me they are capable of improving their results with a little care and many were very proud of their results as they should be.
Continued with some examples of subtracting fractions when a whole number has to be borrowed (like demoninators). That sestion of class was more difficult to manage!! Tomorrow subtracting mixed number fractions.

shot put practice

Silent reading

Personal Planning
Reprodcution activity- ordering the journey of the sperm and the journey of an egg to conception
took us longer than I thought due to the difficulty of getting organized into working partnerships and even then the topic perhaps was one that caused some to struggle with motivation!
The students worked in pairs to cut out and order into sequence the different stages of the respective journeys of an egg and sperm to conception.
For some it was too challenging and for others they seemed to lose interest in completing- we did the correct sequence together and completed a review sheet of the big ideas of the lesson.
Perhaps it was too long a session but I really wanted to complete it today due to being away at camp this week.

letters to the grade sevens about the year end slide show went home, some more packing lists out  and dismissal

have a nice evening and encourage your son or daughter to start getting camp gear together for Wednesday morning.
