Tonight's math7 'tutoring' session will be a review of the steps for adding and subtracting integers- that is what the students who attended last week requested.
The whole idea is to review but also to try the activities for themselves and to hand in their efforts so I can determine whether or not more time is necessary for a given concept - of 6 students last week I only have two activties handed in.
I'll report later on about how many show up for tonight's extra session.
It is 4:15pm now and I had my merry band of 6 students show up again- so grateful that they are spending a little bit of time to try to understand the concepts that are confusing them.
I am using the method of subtracting integers by what is called the substitution of addition- so essentially, you can subtract an integer by adding the opposite.
Homework

Our day...

Morning 'catch-up' session- with parents visiting tomorrow, the students needed some time to get a number of started but yet to be completed assignments done- not to mention some desks and binders needed a bit of organization.
We did a variety of activities: novel write ups, reading, science review, poems as well as organization.
Very productive session. I was proud of them and offered organizational assistance among other resources.
band class
Math7 review test for the geometry unit
11-1:30 and true to my word I transferred many of the pre-test questions from yesterday's class worksheet to the review. I'll report the results in the next couple of days.
11:30+ -noon IXL 20 questions (the daily limit) and seome free computer time- I have been encouraging the games for cultural change (Third World Farmer, Free Rice etc.)
Silent reading
allowing some time for art to speed up the process for our display tomorrow
Phys Ed.
The students have been 'begging' for a class game outside and seeing it was decent weather (and I hear the rain might be upon us tomorrow) I capitualted and we headed out into the back 40 to play a class game of capture the flag. The students seemed to enjoy it although the longer we played (we did two games) the more issues arose! We have a list of things to review and sort out for any future games of this nature! Anyway, we all ran around, got some much needed fresh air and everyone returned safe and accounted for.
Art - there really was not a great deal of time left at the end of the day so I guess I will have to ensure there is some art time tomorrow!!
