Our day...

Phys Ed.
I was proud of the students today. They requested a split gym and managed to organize themselves into three separate interest groups. Floor hockey (10) students played well and got in some practice together before tonight's game against Valleycliffe Elementary.  7 played a basketball scrimmage on a half court and the girls managed to out score the boys team by using some good teamwork. Another group of 7 took advantage of the outdoor equipment which is often busy at break times and I managed to keep the back door open and have an eye on all three activities.
Everyone was active and seemed to enjoy their choices.

Poem Greatness
Students wrote their poems and started to create an illustration for it. There are some really nice 'images' that the students have created with words in their poems. Hope you can read them on Thursday night.

Math 7
completed the problem solving activites set for homework- so few students make any effort to complete homework that it is normal that maybe four of five have made any personal effort. I had to give a mini-nag (if there is such a thing) that moving up to high school will mean that the concepts in classes like math and science will have to be attempted by themselves personally before they can claim to really have mastered a skill.
I am frustrated by the number of students who seem to be taking in the lesson or concept explanation but have no clue what to do when faced with an example they are asked to attempt on their own. Some do not know where to start.
I should get a clearer picture tomorrow after the unit (so far) review of the concepts of the last couple of weeks.

during lunch the fonts for the grad hoodies were signed by the grade sevens.

Silent reading

Science (from yesterday's class lab/experiment) completed the lab report from yesterday together discussing the outcomes and planning a second attempt later this week.

2-3pm First nations Cultural Program
We had Charlene Williams as a guest for the last hour of the day and she taught us how to play the Bone (or Stick ) Game called Slahal.
It is a game of chance although many say there is a strategy to it- we split into two teams of 12 and faced off with the music going in the background Charlene taught us how to make the correct hand signals and decide who won the 'bones'. As you can imagine it can get quite loud and exciting.
We are fortunate to be able to learn these cross-cultural games and some of the Sko'omish language.
Thanks, Charlene

Dismissal
Have a great evening and good luck with the floor hockey game boys. Play fair and fast.
Mrs. J.
