Back on track...April 3rd, 2013

Feels so strange to be sitting in a quiet classroom posting this ...school started back yesterday but I didn't make it further than an emergency dental appointment - a root canal. Lovely- not the way I wanted to start the last Term. I felt great (much better than yesterday) this morning but as the day progressed I felt my energy sag! However, here I am after a staff meeting and a Grade 7 meeting with Mr. Parker ready to put up the first post in a couple of weeks.

Homework
Have asked the students to complete the reader's response for the first three chapters of their chosen novels and then read to chapter 5 (guide questions were provided yesterday)
Math7 Chapter 1 review of the tranformations unit

Reminders
Have a couple fo late DRS grade 7 resistration forms to get (will catch up with the students tomorrow)
There will be a sign the 2013 silkscreen for the grad hoodie now that colours have been determined
Camp is not far off reminders to start thinking about our funbdraisinf venture in early May

Starting next Wednesday I will be offering a math coaching session on Wednesdays after school for any of my grade 7 students who wants to improve on a specific concept. First Wednesday, April 10th the comcept will be equations (balancing equations) from the algebra unit.

Today...
Daily French

Language Arts:
Novel time to work on the response reading and questions that I left yesterday with my TOC
HOTS questions ask the students to consider their reading experience using higher order thinking skills instead of always answering questions or providing a summary. This activity should determine whether or not the book is the correct choice for a student.

Band class
This gave me the time to prepare three general questions for Chapters 3-5 for each novel (we have three on the go)

Math 7 today we worked together on a 'logic' type of directions activity which asked the student to plot a triangle and a trapexoid without getting all the coordinates but using instead clues. Intersting. We are still plugging away at the review which was set yesterday.
Computers for the second half of class- on-line practice using the IXL and the MathLinks 7 sites.

Silent Reading

Physical Education- split the gym for floor hockey on one side, basketball scrimmage on the other and a small group practiced some badminton shots on the stage area. Challenge to ensure eveyone was safe being one person supervising three activites but the good news is that for the most part everyone played well together and no one was hurt! Yeah!\

Art- butterflies/ moths practicing sketching and designing the camoflague that these amazing insects display on mini-versions of the template. Tomorrow once the designs are done, the larger size templates can be distributed. Used the Internet to show some amazing and intricate patterns of these insects in the natural world. The students did a great job too.

Read aloud chapter 10 short and sweet just enough to get us back into the story :)

Dismissal
Staff Meeting
Have a great evening

Yesterday...

Phys Ed badminton play and practice

Language Arts intro to HOTS quaestions and reading the first three chapoters to complete a reader's personal response

Math 7 Chapter 1 review in textbook

Silent Reading

French/Art- poster- students chose a poster from the Lissez, dessinez et Coloriez resource

20 minutes outside in sunshine
Thank you to my TOC Ms. Dragonov who had a good day in our class- always nice to hear that the students were ('for the most part"- her words) respectful and well behaved. Thanks guys- I was a mess after the dental procedure!
Nighty, night
Mrs. J. time for soccer now

  1. Oh this is great to see your posts about what is going on. I wondered when the signing of the grad hoodie might be as Helena doesn't seem to be feeling well tonight and may not be in tomorrow (Friday), if she doesn't perk up by the morning, but doesn't want to miss out on it.

She will also be attending the Wed. math afterschool class.

    Thanks!

    Best,
    Shelley Jacobsen.

    1. Yeah- I finally figured out how to send a reply again! It has been a while since I have had any comments. Thanks for your feedback. Glad that Helena was in school Friday- happy to hear she will be at the Wednesday math coaching. The hoodies will be signed on two separate dates to catch any absentees. Have a great weekend. Cheers, Selene Johnston
