Tuesday Feb. 5th

Weather is still a little wet, wet ,wet...but I prefer that to snow, snowier, snowiest!

Today some returned to class but ther were still 5 students away and more in class coughing and not looking so great. This was the first Phys. Ed. session that a few students did not (were unable to) participate fully and the run and fitness session was noticeably affected by their energy or lack of it.

Homework
Nothing new
8 students still have socials reports to complete and hand in (I have checked in with all students in this group and asked that they hand in what they have done by Thursday this week)
B/C vocabulary Spelling Thursday
I gave an extra day for the A vocabulary redo as so many missed Monday's class

Reminders
camp forms due for number confirmation Feb 14th (next Thursday)
hoodie orders ASAP - once the order is in next week there can be no new orders as the numbers are run with the silkscreen once (ya snooze, ya may not get a hoodie at all)
long weekend Friday/Monday no school - time to get well everyone :)

our day...

Phys Ed.
students sluggish and not feeling 100% did a short 2 minute run and some yoga stretches before we mixed and matched into four teams for basketball half court scrimmages.

With so many away yesterday, Language Arts was a session of different students focusing on different activities
  • those away yesterday did the spelling list and activity for B/C vocabulary
  • those who focused on redoing the A vocabulary worked on the new list of B/C vocabulary
  • those in class who did not finish the paragraph activity worked on completing that
  • those who had the other activites completed did an SRA reading card
  • a handful worked on independent novel reports which means they have worked 'out' of the top SRA reading level (my top level is equivalent Gr 9) :)
We did all this while listening to Mozart- thanks for bringing your CD, Ethan

Shhhhhhh... the students (most) are enjoying the quiet in the class and the music- a student asked this afternoon if we could play some classical music during reading time!

Math 7
FSA assessmant session for the short write and 'catch up' to get students away for the reading comprehension session last week up to speed with everyone else...that is a bit of a challenge (yesterday 8 grade sevens were away and today 2 were absent so a few are behind the 'pack').

Silent reading once settled it was a very productive session (the usual suspects needed a quiet reminder but much, MUCH better than the last couple of weeks in January)
We are all trying really hard to work together. I appreciate the effort and the students are reaping the benefits of having a classroom that is calm, learning environment.

French
Les phrases - arrangez vous
Arrangez vous les phrases.
An activity today showing the connection of English and French sentence grammar. Taking basic sentences, arranging them correctly with:
noun determiner or pronoun-verb-noun / adjective.
ex. Nous sommes ecoutons au professeur.
The students each have their own master copy to work from for a quiz on Friday using the same sentences in a different order.

Art
While listening to music this afternoon, I encouraged the students to 'get a move on' the current art projects. We have been taking too long and need to speed 'er up so to speak. I get so frustrated when students get impatient with their own skills in art and crumple up perfectly good attempts to start again. AArrrggghhh! Not to mention the waste of paper resources.
Then, there is the 'crew' that can't find anything one day to the next despite the fact that it didn't go anywhere out of the classroom- how is that even possible? It makes me crazy.
You mean you want ME to look for it?
There are about 5 keeners that have all the projects buttoned up and are ready for another idea! I threw out Valentine's Day for lack of a better thought out art project!
It's like the Plate Spinner act that you see in variety shows...

Clean up, pack up and dimissal after going over the homework and reminders.
Apparently a few students swear on the bible that I didn't give them camp forms. I will make some more copies and try again. Please sign the camp forms - the due date is next Thrusday 14th as we need to confirm numbers and without those all important numbers there may not be a camp at all!
Repeat after me...We want camp!

good luck at your basketball game boys:)

Have a dry and cosy evening
Mrs .J.
