WooHoo First Day of 2011-2012 classes :)

Hello everyone and welcome to our Blog.
I actually nearly forgot about it because I haven't been posting every day over the summer break- need to get back in the habit.

Reminders (homework) for Monday September 12th
time was provided for students to copy these instructions into their new planners- all students were issued planners today
  • students were provided with a Newsletter #1 for parents and guardians and were asked to take it home tucked inside their planner
  •  parents fill in the communication info on page 3 and return
  • if not already paid, $10 is required for the planner and class supplies that will be issued throughout the next few weeks (journals, homework folders etc.)
  • 3 x 1 inch binders (the $2 kind) are requested for class with one or two packets of dividers ($1)
Finally, I asked students to check the Blog this weekend for a 'code' word which will be hidden in the text somewhere which means they might have to read the day's entry!! Have the 'code' word Monday for a supply surprise!!
Head's up:
The following students left their planner and the newsletter behind in class: Tesla and Ajay
These students left behind the newsletter: Autumn, Eric and George

Our Day
We had a wondeful day one together- Day 1's are usually great because eveyone is so keen to get on with things and settle into the class. I'm having good vibrations.
We have 17 grade 7 students and 9 grade six this year for a class total of 26.

We started in the gym and went over some expectations regarding safety and proper footwear. I reviewed the whistle signals I need students to recognize and respond to and we played some games to test our response time. Good sportsmanship was evident and everyone seemed to have a little fun. Thank you everyone. Remember that our sessions in the gym (and out) will stress safety first, fitness and fun.

Back in class the students settled to an activity called All About Me which provided me with information which I will read carefully this weekend (my homework)
We completed a partner activity card asking them to share goals and favourite summer memories.
After recess we worked together on a power point presentation about our class organization and expectations.
We then visited the computer lab which gave me an opportunity to introduce them to the math and science programs which have an on-line component and ,of course, show them the Blog.
10 minutes free computer time before lunch

Quiet reading was appreciated after the exciting end to the lunch break which (speaking of vibrations) included an earth tremor from today's earthquake in the Campbell River area on the Island. Apparently, it was a 6.5.
the code word is 'tiddleywinks"
Next was Band class wiht Ms. Sorban

Back in class we finished up the day by issuing bins and planners, reading the newsletter and organizing supplies. We finished the last ten minutes with a group game which was played in good spirits.

I am looking forward to a productive year. Thank-you for a truly wonderful start to our learning journey this year.
Have a great weekend and enjoy soccer in the sun.
See you Monday.
Mrs. J.
P.S. I have organized the desks- we will be seated randomly on Monday (by number lottery :)
And please remember we will be switching for Math every day between 11-12 for Math. Mr. Parker will teach the grade 6 program and I will be teaching all the grade sevens the Mathlinks 7 program.
