Rain, rain, rain....
Homework
no curricular homework - there will be nothing new until after Spring Break
However,
please remember to read and sign Term 2 reports and complete the Term 2 reflection
also, today, the students received their Gr8 course registration that needs to be agreed to and signed by parents. Please try to return them by this Friday, March 18th
A few students are still to bring hoodie payment- please try to get it in before Spring Break.
General Day
We started with a brief French weather, date and activity translation- the students had a choice between a French lesson or a half hour in their New Video Game groups- it was a no brainer:) lol
They chose to work again in their project groups.
Band
after snack we managed to 'shoot' two more videos for the video game 'commercials'- interestingly enough the girls managed to get their new games onto a video format :) Maybe it was the cute videographer :)
I have been impressed as this is day #5 of the project. We have managed to get three of seven onto the expected video format and the rest of the groups are almost there with their posters. We are probably getting to the end with their energy and enthusiasm with it.
We have such great starts but sometimes with the inconsistency in attendance (mostly due to illness) and lack of perseverence of some students, the projects sometimes fizzle and don't quite get finished as they could. It is hard to keep it alive when half of the class is finished and wondering what to do next!! Nicholas H. said he would come back after Spring Break if the others groups were ready to 'shoot' so they do have an incentive to complete the project.
He is also keen to offer an evening workshop to interested students in April. It is a great opportunity.
DEAR time was good- after the rainy lunch time some down time was needed...
Map # 9 countires of North America- I had trouble with all the small countires south of Mexico and north of South America!!! Guess I should have prepared that lesson better! Luckily for me Mrs. Riley the Gr 8 counsellor arrived to meet the students. I'll find out exactly where Costa Rica is before tomorrow!
DRSS Gr 8 registration and Q&A regarding high school. Mrs. Riley and the Vice Principal Robyn Ross brought two former students with them Amrit and Chris - it was good to see them.
The students received their Gr8 forms which need to be signed- they have a choice of elective between Band 8 or an Art/ Drama rotation. Another choice if a student has learning needs is French 8 or Learning Needs Support- which is a class of supports for students who have received adaptations for their IEP needs in elementary school. If you are not sure if your child qualilfies for LNS and you are interested in registering please let me know and we can clarify that choice.
DRSS will be offering a linear timetable next year which means that instead of 4 subjects at a time over 20 weeks, the students will be enrolled in 8 subjects all year on a 5x8 timetable. Classes will be one hour long (shorter than this years 75 minutes) and will continue all year long. Day 1 rotation will repeat every 8 days meaning some classes will be three days a week and others two on roatation. Phys. Ed. 8 classes will continue to be separate for boys and girls although depending on numbers there may be the odd co-ed class (as there is this year).
May 11th is this year's open house at DRSS and in June we will have a day visit with all Gr7 students.
The students asked great questions today and I was very impressed (as were our visitors) with their ability to handle the hour format this afternoon.
Good job- well done.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding Gr8 registration, just e-mail, call or send a note and I will do my best to answer - anything I don't know I will forward to DRSS.
3pm Dismissal
FSA booklets and multiple choice results will be issued to students individually after Spring Break.
Have a dry evening!!!!
Mrs. J.
