The last Monday before Spring Break- an hour time change and a class of grade sevens anticipating report cards!! Welcome to the week...it's going to be a busy one which is fine if it goes by smoothly :)
Homework
no homework
students who asked for another chance to bring back their grad hoodie orders just need to remember to bring them!!
General Day
A bit different today:
We started with a quick French translation sentence about the date, weather and upcoming Spring Break- the students are understanding the French faster and are remembering the phrases (finally!!)
10-10:30am We worked in our New Video Game groups trying to complete the story synopsis and draw up a story board. We had our guest videographer today. He visited each group providing ideas, guidance and making suggestions. One group was ready to 'shoot' today. Things are coming together quite well- just need to keep the enthusiasm going. A strong finish is as important as a strong start :)
We hope more groups will be ready to 'shoot' tomorrow.
after snack, we did a Public Speech journal entry reviewing the top 5+ tips for good speeches and the students were very well versed in what they needed to make an effective speech...prepared topic and cue cards, practice, have a confident, strong voice, make eye contact and be enthusiastic about the topic (show you care, be animated but not too much). We also spoke briefly about audience behaviour and the importance of listening to the speaker.
We responded in journals to 5 topics and then we had some excellent discussion
1. the nuclear meltdown in Japan - what are the dangers of nuclear power?
2. Uniforms at school- what if we were to wear them in our district (we are not planning that!!) what are their opinions?
3. the legalization of marijuana- what are the consequences?
4. education - how would you improve the education system?
5. underage users and Facebook- should we be concerned about children having a Facebook account?
The students responded first in writing and then we shared as a class. It was amazing. I would have to say the best and most passionate arguments were made by the majority of speakers against the legalization of marijuana!! Go figure. I really enjoyed listening to the students reasons and reasoning. You would have been proud of them. We have some good speech planning going on in garde seven :)
DEAR time was great (Shhhh I think we might all be tired!)
Art- our art show is Wednesday and so many students have been away that a third of the class are finished and need another activity (we drew our shoes!), a third are nearly finished and a third have not really had time to get anywhere with the project (lanscapes and. or tranformations). It is a little crazy!!
Phys. Ed.
We tried a line Floor Hockey today for skills and first of the season moving with the stick and ball. Quite a few students are still not feeling well enough to participate. Need to give them the benefit of the doubt this week and expect that after a rest during Spring Break everyone will be good to go in late March.
The floor hocky seemed to go well enough.
Before dismissal I handed out report card envelopes for Term 2. I hope you get them in one piece!
3pm dismissal
tomorrow afternoon we have grade eight registration 2-3pm. Wednesday we have our open house and art show.
Have a nice evening
Mrs. J.
