Wednesday March 16th

Open House and Art Show- come visit and see how talented the students in our school are in their creative art projects. It is definitely worth the visit. :)

Homework
Nothing new this week- except the novel for term 3 which I am recommending that students take home this week of Spring Break to read as much as possible. After the break the work for term 3 will get underway.

Please remember
to return report cards and reflective sheets for Term 2
to return the Gr 8 registration forms for DRSS by Friday
Grad hoodie orders due asap

General Day
The kindergartens came flying upstairs to find the leprachaun evidence- we had footprints and messages and even our desks were 'tampered' with. The Gr 7 students were great sports and told the Kindergartens crazy stories of having chased the little green men out of the class :) So cute! It is quite a nutty way of starting the day!!

I congratulated the students on their behaviour at the meeting yesterday with Ms. Riley, the counsellor from DRSS, they were great- their questions were great and they showed that they are able to handle themselves well and make a great impression on visitors :) They are getting ready for high school...it is exciting. I reviewed the Fr8 option with them again a it was a bit confuding yesterday!

We discussed a change of seating to 6 groups of 5 (to accommodate 30 students) and I had the students write me a list of the classmates they would 'ideally' like to sit with next term.

I also asked the students to consider a couple of scenarios for June year end field trips. I will soon need to start the paper work and organization for June believe it or not!!

We finished the map #9 the countires of North America- I guess I had always thought of Central America as a different part of the world!!!- I had never considered the countries of Guatamala, Cotsa Rica, Belize etc to be North America let alone the Lesser Antilles Islands!! Boy, I guess it was me that needed the lesson!!
Those islands still belong to the UK, France and Greenland to Denmark. We had a brief history romp discussing Cuba and its role in the Cold War and the Cuban missile Crisis. All in all it was a neat look at the countires and islands of North America.

Instead of Math today, we did an acivity that had the students consider lines and symmetry- (a geometry unit is next in late March/April- I just don't want to start it now before Spring Break!!). They actually did a good job as it takes time and skill to complete the other half of a figure or copy exactly the design from one area to another and keep size and proportion accurate. They seemed to enjoy it.

Computers- I intended to do a science activity BUT I tried to get the teacher screen to work and I failed- by the time I got it working, the students were so engaged in their 'free time' simulated games that I honestly didn't have the heart or the energy to stop them!! I had to redirect a couple of boys but other than that they were fine- without me intefering!

DEAR time was good again but I noticed not all were reading- some were madly trying to finish their art which they wanted displayed in our art show tonight (thanks, I got 4 more)
Some were completing close up sketches of shoes- an activity that I started to give those who had finished their art pieces to have something to do! Some were still engaged in the symmetry activity from this morning.
Others were getting organized for tonight's visits by their parents- good thing too :0
Oh yeah, there were a few actually reading!!! Go figure!

The next 15 minutes we went to the gym to tour our own school art show. There are so many amazing variations- I think the students were impressed both with themsleves and the talent of their school mates in other grades from K-6. Oh yes, and the beautiful display of their art work that their teachers worked so hard on last night.
:)

Pack up and prep desks for tonight- clean out the cloakroom of clothing and plastic lunch containers some with their own penicillin experiments!! With the warmer weather we will have to do this more often now.

2pm Dismissal
Open house and art show- come visit and see Term 2 work up close and personal
2-4:30 pm
5:30-7 pm

Thank-you to all parents who took the time from their busy schedule to come and visit tonight. I appreciate it. Have a good evening.
Mrs. J.
