Last Friday of the 2009-2010 school year!!

Boy, am I tired. Trying to keep the students busy and occupied with other things than themseleves was rather challenging!
But, looks like we made it!

I must confess to being very grateful for the dismissal bell today as the clean up went much faster wintout the majority of them there. BIG shout out to those students who really dug deeper than ever today and helped me keep it together. Thanks for the assistance distributing work and keepsakes to your classmates.

General Day
Flapjack Friday...

Waiting for Pancakes!

We chatted informally about their day at the high school yesterday and most enjoyed themselves. It seems to have made them more excited and less anxious which is aways a good thing. They wanted more to eat (of course!) and were happy to get their schedules which they were still comparing today!
We had some grade eight former students visit and I put them to work answering all the kids questions about high school and the things that perhaps they weren't able to ask at any of the meetings they have had with DRSS staff.

Still waiting to get fed some pancakes at 10am- the students were getting a little cranky as they were convinced nothing would be left BUT we finally were called to the gym and they ate for half an hour until recess break.

After recess we spent some time putting away the chairs and tables and folding the tablecloths for the PAC committee (thank-you for your assistance with the clean up) and then we spent the best part of half an hour messing around with the practice locker locks that I received in a bag from DRSS yesterday. It was a really good exercise as it really isn't as easy as it looks and some students are not very patient so I was again very grateful that I had four grade eight students who managed to provide one-one instruction on how to get the combinations correct so the locks would open. Most managed at least once - some were not so consistent but they will learn because they have to be able to master the locker padlocks which will be issued to them on the first day of school. Students are not allowed to bring their own locks.
Two of the biggest issues that a grade eight has to face in the first couple of weeks at high school is first knowing where classes are located and second being able to get there on time with the correct textbook IF they can get their lock on their locker to open that is!!!

The last part of the morning before lunch we continued our clean up mode and started to consider what was wanted and what could be recycled or donated. It got a little crazy but soon lunch was upon us and they all settled down to eat :)

After lunch (and a modicum more clean up of the LUNCH stuff!!! big mess in class)
we headed to computers and had an hour or so there. Isaac and I worked on trying to sync the slideshow for Monday and found that it wouldn't play on the school lap top so I need to burn a disk as I expected! Hope I can get it organized for Monday! Nothing like leaving it to the last minute but things have been rather hectic and I have found it difficult to concentrate on any one thing for long. Waa Waa Waa!!

I still need to call parents about Monday regarding the awards ceremony.

Back in class for the last part of the day and the students who were finished their clean up played cards and dominos (well they set up the dominos and knocked them over!!) which kept them out of trouble.
Finally a 3pm dismissal bell (YEAH) I don't know who was more relieved them or me!!
Have a good weekend and see everyone Monday for the last full day of school. Sheesh- this year has gone by at a clip!
Mrs. J.
