To all the parents who have stuck with me all year...thank-you for reading my Classroom Blog and thanks for your support. I intended to 'spruce it up a bit' but never managed to get a round tuit. If you know where I can by a round tuit please let me know as I need it desperately! This summer I am going to find the time to learn a bit more technology (but how well will I do without my students?)
The last full day of school for this year's grade sevens was a positive but hyper one. I still have a headache but it's all good- everything went well and we had a nice luncheon or 'Lunch-In" as the kids called it. Thank-you to all the parents and students who remembered and who contributed to our nibblies- as usual there was enough for us all. No complaints were heard (except that we needed more to drink)- I kind of forgot about drinks!! Oops.
The Jennings (Sarah and mom) made the most beautifully decorated cake which went over very well with the students- Thank-you. Raj's mom made some spicy samosas that the kids loved. Thank-you. Huntington's mom brought a veggie and dip platter which I was grateful for as many brought bags of chips and I wanted some real food in their tummies first. Alomg with the chicken wings, sausage rolls, Oriental part pack from M&M and a watermelon, we ate for 45 minutes and listened to some tunes on i-pods!! Zac B. was the only one who remembered some apple juice- thanks, Zac. It went over very well after the samosas :)
I had the students write me report cards for the year- they are funny and insightful and I have a few areas to improve for next year but generally I was interested to get their input about my strengths and weaknessess because "there's always room for improvement". Lol. Thanks for the advice. When I have time to reflect on my teaching practice this summer I will most definitely be checking out my report cards again.
Final clean up went well if a bit noisy. There are about 10 bins to be emptied (one third of the class) and all the desks are cleaned out and set aside for tomorrow so we can have a clear area to meet for the hour tomorrow.
The afternoon awards ceremony seemed to go well and smoothly. I sighed relief when the CD Rom of the Camp Homewood actually played as I had to redo the whole thing again on Saturday because the flash drive only seemed to have saved the opening and closing credits!!
We have rock stars in our midst too. The boys called the Bananaraffes (?) are Huntington, William, Mitchell, Tony and Matthew P. (hope I haven't forgotten anyone) were fabulous. Excellent showcase of their musical talent and great stage presence- they played an instrumental very well and I thoroughly enjoyed it. They gave up many lunch hours to practice. Great job boys- I got a picture of them so when they are famous I can get BIG bucks for it :)
The students had actually 'called' all the award winners in an earlier journal entry this month. There were no complaints maybe a few disappiontments but no complaints! Congratulations to all the recipients- we are proud of you.
After the awards ceremony I distributed the book gifts that I had wrapped for the students- I hope that they are happy with the choices as the majority of them were chosen by them and by the looks of things (none left in class) I think they all went home which is the first good sign I guess :)
I was lucky enough to win books in a Scholastic Book Company random draw and was delighted to be able to share my good fortune and give every student a book with a parting message.
If you are interested tomorrow we will be getting together for 15 minutes or so with Mr. Parker's class to see the rest of the camp pictures which apparently aren't loading onto the school account- we'll see if one of our students can fix that tomorrow!!
Then I do the 2010 Sillies awards that are now in their 5th year I think. Everyone will get an award of Dubious Achievement! If there is time we may play a couple of class games in class as the chairs will be set up for it. Off, course report cards will be issued before they go home. And that will probably be the hour- then it's officially summer time.
That's about it- I'm not sure if I'll miss doing the Blog- maybe not- need a break as do you!
I would really appreciate knowing if there any comments or ideas for future Blogs - is the format too long? Am I too long winded? What features would you like to see as parents that are not there now? etc. The good, the bad and the ugly...you know...
Have a wonderful evening and I will see everyone tomorrow for the last 'Hurrah"
Toodles
Mrs. J.
