We made it to Friday, yeah!!!

For a 'short' week it was rather longgggg if you know what I mean!!
[Hard to believe it's June next week!!]

However, we made it and we need to get some rest this weekend before the last month of the school year is upon us!

Understandably the students who attended the Track and Field Meet in Whistler yesterday were rather tired from a later than expected return home last night. They had decent weather though and were proud of their accomplishments. It was a successful Squamish Elementary Track Team- well done everyone :)

Today a group of grade 6/7's left for the Science Olympics at Whistler Secondary and they too seemed to have a good day winning a medal for the highest tower challenge. Way to go, team.

Homework
no change- same as it has been (minus the math test)
read novel, Milkweed
complete the questions for language arts
French posters to be handed in
Reminders: hoodies $25
talent show next Friday

General Day

DPA game was an oldie 'Alien Invasion' in which the students aim at the cones of the opposite team to knock them down (the cones not the poeple). The students modified the rules actually making the game a bit more challenging!! I wasn't complaining but they started to and then we tried another game :) So funny- they want a challenge, they set it up and when it becomes more difficult (by their own design) they get upset and start complaining. I love teenagers!

The science lab that was set up last night mysteriously was cleaned up (very efficient custodian!)
and was gone. So I decided to wing another lab (one that didn't need the same amount of measuring and materials). Today we did the dancing raisins- ask your son or daughter what the experiment (lab) demonstrated and see if they can explain it to you. It took a bit longer than I expected partly because of the set up of the materials but once again due to the difficulty of dealing with the interruptions of a few. After a bout of 'cranky teacher' management (mismanagement!!!) the bell rang for recess!!!!
It was one of those Fridays. I wept for 15 seconds and had a chance to take a deep breath count to ten and get the lab completed successfully after recess.

Before lunch we used a half hour for Art - poster time - they are l0ooking very good and it was a chance for evryone to chill out before lunch.

Lunch time Squamish World Cup Soccer game - well played by those who participated I hear - good job

DEAR time was a bit of a catch up session today especially as a bunch were still at the Science Olympics.
I managed to sit down with a couple of students and reteach the math concepts they were struggling with, some read, most competed their posters and others... well... others quietly socialized !!

Computers- the silly monitor wasn't hooked up to my computer but I checked out the new teacher program Insight (made a mistake that the students let me know about immediately- apparently I put my computer cscreen onto their monitors- oops- works really well, hee, hee)
The students had free time which I was able to monitor. I learned how to clean a filter (Thanks, Kai). Hopefully, I will be able to share the Consuming Kids short videos to the students next week.

Finished the day with a class meeting and vote on the newspaper project. Of 25 students 23 are up for the challenge and 2 would prefer to do centre units (I'm not too sure if I can do both but l'll try to set it up as it is only two students for the centres so it might be manageable)

Finished the day by giving out the class picture which is okay but a bit manic (rainbow background and some very interesting poses and faces- I think I'd like another less formal one)

Dismissal
Have a good weekend everyone. REST up we have a busy week ahead
Mrs. J.
