It was a productive Monday and I am happy to share. I can't hear properly due to a head cold (actually that might have helped me!!!) so I have been feeling a bit 'under the weather' today and the students were empathic and cooperative. Thanks everyone.
I shared the template for the term three report card with the students today so they could see the learning outcomes that we have been working on throughout the term all together in one place. It always helps just to remind us all that even though the end of the school year is within sight, we have enough to keep us busy through June.
Homework
The overdue questions for the reading selection (Raoul Wallenberg) are expected to be handed in tomorrow as I will be returning those I have and going over the answers... last chance to complete them is tonight
Read the novel
complete the posters-some colour would be nice but not mandatory (getting many of them handed in now)
Reminders
$25 grad hoodies
Remember to bring the last page of the UBC survey permission letter back by Friday this week
General Day
Vocab-U-Lous 'I' letters vocabulary group activity- the students are managing to complete the detective work faster than a few weeks ago because they have managed to work better cooperatively. I am impressed with their accuracy and skill with the big Oxford dictionaries.
Math
We started a review look at probability and how to express it in a ratio, convert it to a fraction and express its equivalent percentage. We completed a few examples using a die, a set of cards and candy colours. One area for practice is in reducing fractions as low as they can be expressed- I call it limbo (as low as you can go)- take the fraction to its lowest expression.
We had an assembly after recess and were entertained by the students from Mamquam who shared some numbers from their production of Beauty and The Beast. They were very good and the students enjoyed the musical skills and talent of their peers.
the lunch time soccer world cup continues
DEAR time was used for a number of assignments and reading selections of course but I am allowing students who are behind to get a quiet moment to complete work that they need to hand in- so some did their questions, some their mythology activities, some their posters and others read.
Health and Career- Sexual Health Unit
Today we took a look at the Endocrine system that regulates such important body functions such as insulin, salt, water, sugar, calcium, antibodies and estrogen and testosterone. We discussed the importance of the pituitary gland in the regulation of bodily growth and puberty. The pituitary is a very powerful gland as it controls the function of other glands.
Computers
the monitor was working but I am still learning how to utilize the new technology and unfortunately I was not successful in showing the Consuming Kids video because I did not limit the internet and the video would not buffer properly (live and learn- I'll get it right next time darn it) LOL
I think the students are enjoying watching a 'nube' (newcomer to their computer world) figure it out- they have figure out how to send me messages on the new program while I'm still trying to get a handle on a simple screen command. Too funny!
Back to class- distributed the UBC permission letters for the survey- please return them by Friday of this week. Dismissal.
Have a good evening.
Mrs. J.
