Now it's Thursday!!!

Well, how do I explain that I haven't even thought about the Blog since Monday evening!!
Here's my reasoning felt lousy Monday, took a sick day on Tuesday, forgot about the Blog after the staff meeting Wednesday and here it is Thursday evening already!!! Que tempus fugit (ask your son or daughter to tell you the meaning of that phrase- we have been analyzing Greek and Roman roots in our vocabulary work).

So I am going to try to catch up in a summary of the last couple of days..

Tuesday June 1st
Ms. Borsoff covered for me as I slept off my nasty head cold. It really helped :)
The students completed a spelling activity, a reading & question selection, a French booklet on
-er verbs and a probability practice worksheet changing ratio to fraction to percentage
and decimal equivalency. They had a good Physical Ed session and managed to learn a little bit about Caves from a BBC produced series about the Earth- from their reaction I'm glad I didn't take them caving this year!!!

Wednesday June 2nd
I was back to class still feeling a bit stuffed up but much better. We had a productive morning and completed the catch up with the science booklets and labs - reviewing the 'dancing raisins' lab which produced CO2 and the chemical and physical changes chart- had some interesting discussion about the nature of chemical reaction. The students were surprised that there are CO2 canisters that can be used to make your own 'pop'. At least I remember them from when I was a kid (am I showing my age? My mom used to sparkle up our apple juice on holiday occasions) We completed and reviewed the math worksheets, collected the homework for French and language arts set yesterday.
After DEAR time - which some used to get themselves organized and 'caught-up', we completed our look at the Endocrine system and began a what do you remember review of the reproductive system. It was a 'giggly' class- the boys were especially 'giggly'- it's so reassuring that they are still a little uncomfortable! We cleared up that a baby develops in the uterus as some had anatomy a bit confused and ensured we had all the correct anatomical names for the reproductive organs as there are some very interesting slang terms being used!! One of our agreements was proper terms.
We finished with some art time - posters are just about done!!!

Thursday June 3rd- today
I had the opportunity to be the TIC teacher in charge today (I prefer my classroom but a day being the TIC is always a good reminder why I prefer my classroom!!)
My TOC today was Ms. Hewitt- a high school math and science teacher- lucky them- I think I might have embarrassed myself trying to explain to her how to teach relative frequency!!!
Anyway things seemed to go well enough although I do think math before snack is a good option.
We completed Unit 4 of the Greek and Latin Root vocabulary work, a homonyms worksheet before music with Mrs. McPhee. For math part two of the look at probability included calculating relative frequency using either a cross multiplication method or an equivalency method to calculate such problems as "if Tony scores 4 of every 5 shots on goal. What is the possible number of goals he could score in 16 shots?"
For science a one pager on dependent and independent variables was completed before lunch.
Mr. Parker did P. Ed. with them outside after lunch and after DEAR time they were asked to write up an 'advice' response for an internet bullying example.
The day finished with art projects. I returned to class at the end of the day just to ensure everyone had what they needed.
We played a memory game just before dismissal and the students were actually faster and much better than they were the first time we tried it. Impressive.
Homework
Read class novel (one of the students had erased the Milk part of the title Milkweed so the novel has been changed to 'weed'- interesting, maybe I'll leave it up and ask them how the novel is coming along :) Is there a difference between weed and milkweed? :)
Overdue: Animal Thieves reading questions (Tuesday) French -er verb booklet
Reminders: grad hoodies $25, UBC forms due tomorrow, variety show 1-3pm

Have a good evening. See everyone tomorrow- I'll be back in class (yeah)
Mrs. J.
Joke: one student to another: Our teacher talks to herself in class, does yours?
Yes, she doesn't realize it; she actually thinks we are listening!!!!
