Tuesday (mardi) le vingt avril

Hi there,
I have been in my pj's all day and feel like all that's missing is a long snooze in a comfy chair- rather than feel comfortable, I feel a bit vulnerable- how can you take an educator seriously when they are in brushed cotton p.j's and fluffy slippers? lol
I've booked an early night tonight so I'll be quick!

Homework
Spelling Bee tomorrow practice words
goal sheets for term 3 overdue
about 12 students had the last page of the goemetry booklet to complete- looking a angle formed by transversals through parellel lines
a few also had the 'table top' design to finish for tomorrow (French art- the French language can be added after the art is done- colour is a nice touch but optional)
Pennies for our penny drive???? (Sarah brought in a huge 10lbs of pennies today- thanks)

General Day
As a group we had a big heart to heart about the aggression and poor behaviour (hurt bodies and feelings) that are problematic at lunch hour. Mrs. Paxton visited and we agreed that today would be decision day on whether or not soccer in the big group should continue. It was listened to respectfully and students had a chance to speak and give their ideas. This lunch hour was the test for deciding whether or not we could "play well with others".

Math- angles formed by parallel lines- a transversal is a line that cuts through or bisects parallel lines. The angles formed are alternate, opposite, corresponding and interior/exterior and the laws of geometry mean that they are either equal or supplementary (add up to 180)
Some students are struggling with the visual spatial skills required to locate the angles (which is right on developmental target according to Piaget). Others are finished and looking for more.

early snack due to family groups

Family groups - we were all in pj's and were able to split into partners and read a selection of picture books which I had brought from home- my son's collection of books is wide ranging enough to keep the students interested and engaged. My favourite is the book about snakes that comes with 3D glasses and how the primary students were trying to touch the snake as it popped (I nearly typed 'pooped' off the page- now that would be something entirely different!) off the page. We read Robert Munsch, The Stinky Cheese Man, Giraffes can't dance, a book about Dragons and a few more titles - most partners read a couple of books each and the older students read to the younger students. It was a neat 30 minutes. My group laughed their way through Robert Munsch's, Stinky Socks- there is something about his exaggeration that appeals to young minds.

The morning finished with some time for French- I would like the table tops/designs complete so we can add the French and work on the dialogues.

Phys. Ed with Mr. Parker- badminton

DEAR reading or quiet work time - I have been encouraging students to use this time if they have missed classes or activities as there are so many things going on that there is little time left for studetns to 'catch-up'.

I took approx. 20 minutes to go over the Camp Update letter which went home to parents today.
There is a fundraising total to April 19th, an itinerary for travel and the latest information about who is going, what to pack and where the money is going to be used for subsidy.

Art rounded out the day- a Chimera (interesting three part monster) was finished today- looking forward to setting up a mythological 'gallery'.

Dismissal came fast- there doesn't seem to be enough time in the day (maybe that's a good thing- at least I'm not bored)

See everyone tomorrow. The Spelling Bee takes palce in the gym at 1pm. Everyone is welcome to join us.
