It's been a Monday!
I'll be as brief as I can tonight seeing the blog is a bit later (meetings after school).
Homework
Still waiting for Term 3 Goal Sheets
no new homework- this will be changing once we get into the science unit a bit more thoroughly!
General Day
Vocabulous D words today- I find the students work well on these activities together- still see some students struggle with the concept of working as a team- however, most groups managed 8-9 of 10 vocabulary words correct. We will be using them in our writing unit which we will be undertaking starting tomorrow.
Mythological story- the last of the five classic stories were shared and read aloud per group and now the students are familiar with all of them we will be looking at the 'elements' of a myth and creating our own.
French 'table tops' students are designing their picnics, or tables settings for inviting un ami a table for dejeuner ou diner- they will create dialogues and perform the skits in class in the coming weeks.
Music Mrs. McPhee
students were bck a bit later from music instead of math (in 20 minutes) I suggested they continue to work on their French tables (or Greek mythological pieces). They seemed to like that.
Students seemed a bit chatty and loud this morning.
Lunch time soccer is becoming a concern- we will follow the issues up in class with everyone tomorrow.
1-2pm Amy McKinnon Drug and Alcohol Program
Lesson #5 From the Inside Out - the students watched a DVD on the health consequences and social impacts of using crystal meth. They took in the DVD very well but the discussion portion of the lesson became difficult to manage due to a few students who wanted to take over the class discussion with loud cross classroom conversations!
DEAR time- needs to return to a quiet reading time this week. It will be a goal for tomorrow's class.
Computers- I followed up the ACT acronym that Amy taught them today (A- Analyze C -make a choice T- take action) I had the students access a web site called deal.org which is an RCMP site for young people which has pertinient information and discussion on all sorts of topics from making friends, dealing with relationships to drug, alcohol and how to apply for scholarships in its Know Zone. There is a great deal of information and knowledge at their fingertips and these computer sessions are part of the effort to find and promote resources that students can access when they need sound advice and solid facts in order to make wise choices in their teenage years.
Back to class for dismissal.
Until tomorrow
Mrs. J.
