- thank-you for all the camp payments that are coming in without any issues
- thank-you to the students (and parents) who helped out at our community change drive on Saturday 24th- we raised approx $675
- Thank-you to Sarah and her mom (and mom's friends) who raised us another $181 in a drive at Brittania Beach
- Thank-you to Ms Borsoff who looked after the 'fort' on Monday
- Thank-you to my students who had a great day on Monday and to Chris who thanked our guest speaker in a very mature way (unprompted)
- Thank-you also to Savannah's parents (gr6) for their donation to our Camp fund
It all makes me feel very humble.
I am feeling a bit 'under-the gun' with all the last minute details for camp next week. I have a number of things we neeed to do to ensure flawless transportation and organization for the week ranging from payments, to first aid kits to completion of never-ending paperwork.Wah, Wah!!! Need to stop whinging and just get on with it.
I am trying to arrange a grade 6/7 camp meeting at school tomorrow to give the students receipts for payment and share a detailed packing list and maybe even go over some packing tips.
The students are getting excited and have all sorts of questions and I would like to have them all together to go over any last minute concerns. I also need to create cabin and activity lists which will consider personalities and friendships. No small task!
Meanwhile the daily classroom procedure goes on and today there hardly seemed a minute to breathe deeply!
No Homework tonight
General Day
Started with a 'riddle' that the students 'solved' (or at least had heard the answer to before I gave it out !! So darned smart!!) What do you call a pig that learns karate? Pork Chop!!
The next vocabulary activity was more challenging (lucky for me). Words for the five senses which each used a different letter of the alphabet in a blank line down the centre of the page (it's difficult to explain)
Next we reviewed yesterday's discussion regarding the 4 elements of myth and the students are planning now to create their own versions of myth (they have some creative options including poster myths, parody, time shifts, creating new gods or monsters, a TV news cast or talk show (needs research on the characters being 'showcased') as well as writing their own stories. Their creativity is boundless and it is sometimes scary to encourage but I am looking forward to the results (and , yes, I have given guidelines on appropriateness considering how philandering the Greek gods and godesses were!!)
French -sample dialogues were provided for practice for the 'invitation for lunch' skits.
I realized today that the student need some practice time with the language pronunciation (tomorrow). One of the difficulties of the time given for FSL really is that the students speak more English than French. I'd like to change that- I'll keep thinking about how- I do have some ideas but need the implementation time and May is not the right time of year- I'll try a few by the end of the year and see how it goes!!
Math- angles and lines- using the knowledge of equal and supplementary angles formed by parrallel lines amd transversals to determine the angles missing in triangles and quadrilaterals. All quadrilateral angles add up to 360 and all triangles add up to 180 (geometry is such a neat discipline). The students are realizing that they do not necessarily need a protractor if they can use the angle rules and recognize opposite, alternate, corresponding and interior/exterior angles. So cool.

DEAR time
Socials Greek Civilization- geography, culture and city-states- text book reading today- bit dry but the students were all excited about a TV show on tonight (Spike TV) that is 'testing' the weaponry of Alexander the Great against Atilla the Hun- go figure. These guys (and gals) never cease to amaze me with their general knowledge- yeah for Spike TV, who knew?
Ended the day with some positive grade seven input for the upcoming Don Ross articulation meeting (this Thursday evening). I have to complete a form for every grade seven student and wanted them to tell me three positive things they would like me to share with their grade 8 counsellors.
3pm Dismissal
My head is spinning- got lots to do yet so have a nice evening and see everyone tomorrow.
