Friday TGIF

It was a funny (weird) Friday. Sunny and the rain by the end of the day. Interesting day at school too.

Homework
no new homework
However, students who have missed the week or a few days this week have their activities for math, science and vocabulary to catch up- if any help is needed see me next week but at least make a start
Term 3 Goal sheets still overdue

General Day
DPA: Started with a game of "everybody's it" for warm up and then had a fun game of indoor soccer with two lines of five players (my version is a kind of blend of line soccer and indoor soccer)

Science- worked on understanding independent and dependent variables and how we can design fair experiments for science knowing what is controlled and what is being tested. This info. will be very useful for more advanced labs- scientific process is very precise. We added quantitative and qualitative observations to our Lab Report for the Three States of Matter lab from last week.

after recess we did our part for Pitch-in for Earth Day as we had been askled by the District. The students did a great job but got a little spooked by a bag which had spilled contents and rained on ID- you'd think we were CSI- they wanted to get the police involved and the whole nine yards. Probably a stolen purse but it had been there a LONG time considering the bugs and worms crawling all over the bags!! We cleaned it up (with tongs and gloves)! Luckily it was still a very nice morning and we didn't get rained on.

Socials: Once back in class, we took a virtual trip to the top of the city of Athens and we visited the Acropolis and the Temple of Athena Nike. I had some slides and was able to visually explain the architectural features which have lasted (and been emulated) for 3000+ years. When I visited, the Acropolis was being repaired so the temples were covered in scaffolding and tourists were asked to stay behind the fences that were set up. Did you know it is a crime in Greece to remove any of the ancient stone regardless of how rubble-like it appears?
I actually remember one of the students who was in our group (about midway through our daily visits to temples and places of historic interest) saying to me that he couldn't handle seeing any more 'rubble'! lol

We also discussed the types of appropriate questions that we could ask our guest speaker on Monday.
We have a former athlete and HSSS graduate who will be visiting our class on Monday to talk to our students about his experience and struggle with drugs and his current recovery.

DEAR time allowed me to set up the 'stations' for our penny roll (change roll)
With the help of the recycling $$$ raised by Savannah and her family, our penny drive raised $201
Good job everyone- just about every student rolled two or three or more rolls
Art
I had the idea to set up a movie BUT we weren't able to count, roll the change and watch so another day for the movie I guess.
We finished the day with a game of "who's missing?" one classmate goes out in the hall another hides and everyone shuffles spots- the person in the hall returns to see if he or she can identify the missing person (it's harder than it sounds) :)
Dismissal
See some of you tomorrow - dress for rain!!
Have a great weekend.
Mrs. J.
