Never a dull moment at Squamish Elementary- this morning the whole school had individual portraits and class pictures in the gym and just after recess we all got together for the annual school Panorama - all grades all teachers and staff. It was actually very well organized and thanks to Amrit and Raj (our two assistants) all classes had their cards and poses pre-chosen and classes lines up for the photographer. Good job, you two :)
Cabin and activity groups for camp will be shared with the students tomorrow. Mr. Parker and I took into account the students requests when they were drawn up an we would prefer not to have to make lots of changes. We might even try them out a day or so and see if there is any need to switch or alter anything.
Homework
no new assignments- students who have been away need to complete missed activities (language arts, math, science and socials)
Pack for camp
General Day
Unit 2 Greek and Latin Roots vocabulary package- the students are doing very well with these activities. I did notice that quite a few students in their haste to get it 'done' tend to miss some of the directions and I sent a few students back to complete the whole booklet.

Math Pythagorus Theorum at work- solving problems which require Pythagorus Thoerum to solve. For example, if a ramp needs to be built at school and needs a rise of 1m and a length of 5m, what will the length of the ramp be? [square 1 and add the square of 5 = 26/ now, find the squre root of 26 and the ramp will be 5.1m long]

LUNCH
Phys Ed. Mr. Parker baseball season now
DEAR time- bit noisy today !!!
Art/Clash of The Titans (movie) - the old version with the cheesy special effects and Buba the swirling headed owl (an early R2D2!!). What's neat, now that the students are familiar with the classic stories of mythology, is that they now are asking questions about the movie version and realizing that movies do not always give the classic versions of Greek Mythology. I love that they question things (and laugh at the plasticine monsters)!!
One student actually said he was disappointed in the new version of Clash of the Titans because it was too much like Harry Potter meets Star Wars with all the special effects and adaptation of the real stories (apparently the Percy Jackson movie was also a bit disappointing for some of the students because it changed the plot of the book) now, consider this- how often do 12 and 13 year olds make this observation? Loving it!!
Art was Greek Mythology related- I thought the students might get some ideas for their projects and own myths from the old movie. (That's my story and I'm sticking to it :))
Some students were working on a top secret project for a special person that needs to be ready for May and as we are not here next week - we need to get it finished fast!!
Thanks for the reminder, Amrit.
Had an 'articulation' meeting with the Don Ross counsellors for next year's grade eights
Hope everyone has a good evening- hey, it's sunny- enjoy
Mrs. J.
P.S. my voice is still not great but it is a bit better- need to get some Buckleys!
