Friday already - April and the week is gone...

Holy Moly- time flies
This is the earliest I have ever booked a camp for the students and I hope that it will make the end of the school year's peer relationships in garde six and seven smoother.

Woo Hoo!
It's off to Camp Homewood on Monday morning bright and early- all students need to bring their gear and smiling faces to the school at 6:45am on Monday morning- the bus will leave at 7am sharp and will make one stop at Britannia Beach before Horseshoe Bay for the 8:30 am Nanaimo ferry.

Today was a day of wrapping things up (or trying to).
No Homework. There is school next week for those not attending camp and a schedule has been made that will provide the students at school with a very different type of experience. Mornings are scheduled for various curricular activities and afternoons are scheduled for being mentors in the school.

General Day
DPA Mrs. Paxton did me a HUGE favour and taught the students some copoperative games for DPA- my voice is still rough and it also gave me a chance to finalize and photocopy the cabin and activity groups for the coming week.

Science: We redid the 'explosion' experiment this time using independent contrlled variables to see if it would make a difference to the rate of success. We conrelled the water measurement and temperature, the size of efferdent tablet used (a whole tablet) and the containers and lids were all the same. This time everyone's (but one due to a faulty container lid) experiment exploded within 4-8 minutes. Contrlling the varaibles is a vital part of the accuracy of experiment results.

In the science text we read the section on the quantitative properties (measurable) and how metric measurement for finding mass and volume need a knwledge of formula and arithmetic skills. The concept of density was mentioned but was not explored today. We'll keep that for after camp.

We completed the geometry booklet for finding the missing angles in triangles and quadrilaterals using our new found knowledge of the properties of angles. The students learned that with application of the rules, there is no need to fuss with a protractor.

We all had an important (top secret) art project to complete today as we are not around next week to get it ready!!!
DEAR time was multi-faceted today- some read, some completed the art, some asked to word process their mythological stories- all very productive but NOT quiet!!!

We completed (finally) the old version of Clash Of the Titans and even though the students laughed at the dated special effects, they couldn't hel-p but wathch it and they even cheered when Perseus managed to slay the Kraken.

We finished the day going over some details for camp from packing to arriving on time Monday morning. There were a few last minute curve balls with little things like cabin groups and dietary issues but nothing that couldn't be ironed out.
Have to confess I was quite tired by the end of the day and I was having difficulty keeping the students' attention at 2:50pm- my voice needs a rest. Funny how a quick 'hello' from Mrs. Paxton settled most of them down!!

Hope everyone gets packed and gets a good night's sleep on Sunday.
Have a good weekend. See you Monday MORNING.
Are we there yet? (last year the grade sevens asked this question 546 times before the bus arrived at Horne Lake (Courtenay) something tells me it will be a popular question on this trip too!!) I'll let you know- wish us good weather. See everyone in a week.
