Thursday April 22

Not sure what to share about today- the students seem to be in generally good spirits and definitely are excited about how fast camp is coming up. Thank-you to all students who are bringing in penny collections- we have a TON of change to roll.

I am slowly but surely making my way through the list of things to do for the last minute preparations for camp. Tha camp has requested that any dietary considerations be brought to their attention ahead of our arrival and now that I have in all the students medical forms, I can provide that information. I received the last of the student camp packages today. YEAH!

Homework
Pennies for the 'penny drive'
start to plan simple French dialogues for the table top skits (sample dialogues are available in class)
Term 3 GOAL sheets people!!!
start to think about packing for camp (a more thorough list will go home next week)

General Day
I am enjoying the science unit we are doing currently and by the way the students are working on the activities, it seems they are too. We are looking at the three states of matter (on earth) and experimenting with some chemistry materials to observe those different states. Today we complete a booklet of identifying and describing matter and worked on the next section of a proper Lab Report using the qualitative and quantitative properties.
It is like another language (not unlike geometry) and I was impressed with the concentration that my students were working with today- you could have heard a pin drop while they all scratched away at the activities which had them using textual comprehension and related knowledge to complete the booklet.

Music Mrs McPhee

Thank-you Tammy for sending the Timbits with Roman- everyone enjoed a couple of Timbits witht heri morning snack. Yummy!

We decided to continue with science for a half hour after snack - it just seems lately that there are so many things going on that we never have enough time to complete a whole activity. That means that with subjects such as science (or content area in general) a big part of student success relies on his or her memory for what had been discussed or learned the day before (or the session before which might have been last Friday!!) That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it- if we plan to spend a bit more time on completing the learning intentions then I am convince students will retain more and be more confident in their learning.

Art before lunch (Greek, French tables)
litterless lunch challenge- we did okay but some forgot and others weren't aware it was today
approx 12 students had gone the extra mile to ensure there was nothing to 'throw- away'
(some tried to'cheat' but they were busted by the others :)

Physical Education today
the students chose to play a big class game of California Kickball- we chose 'fair' teams in class and headed out into the back field to fight the wind and play CK
It was fun and although we had many refereees, everyone had the chance to kick and run and field and tell me how to steal bases properly!!!

DEAR time wasn't exactly quiet as we had a few things going on but all in all some students made progress on various things (art, reading, French and questioning me about how many pairs of shoes I keep at school!!!!) [a few]
We had students meeting counsellors and mentors popping in and out throughout the afternoon too!! It can get a bit confusing at times as I am not always too sure about days and times any more- some have been added , others changed.

We had another (this time last one) vote for the Grad hoodie colours- black hoodie with lime green lettering won!! Trying to build a consensus with this crew is hard work.

I am embarrassed to say that by the time the extended discussion of fashion-forward colour was completed there was approx 10 minutes left in the day to get cleaned and packed up for dismissal.

Have a great night. See everyone Friday.
Mrs. J.
P.S. Hot Lunch Day tomorrow
