Hi all
My mind is mush!!
Thank-you to everyone who has donated ideas and time and 'stuff' for the garage sale this weekend. Lots more needed but it's a great start. The students have been working on posters and banners.
All the paperwork I mentioned yesterday is coming in slowly- thank-you. Just a reminder to those who still have it kicking around the kitchen- like me!! Or maybe it didn't yet come home- please ask your darling children if they remembered to bring the forms home at all. I find it quite frustrating how many notices don't make it home to parents. Wonder what the answer is?
No homework except for the forms and the garage sale hunt for items for Saturday.
General day
Would you rather be... ?
a writing, oral language activity that gets the students thinking about preferences, commonalities and personality- would you rather be a feather or a rock? Why?
There were 12 leads and some very interesting and insighful discussion when it came time to share. An example...would you rather be trustworthy or sneaky? Answer: trustworthy because it takes so long to build up trust again once you have lost it (wow- a thirteen year old) Would you rather be good looking or healthy? Answer: Since I am already pretty good looking, I'll go for health !! Lol Would you rather spend $10 at 7/11 or Starbucks? Answer: 7/11 because you can buy coffee and still get a bunch of junk food!!
For French I tried to introduce a game called... IS that the answer? Est-ce-que la reponse?
The answers are all on the board in French. I ask the question (today I asked in English) and they find the answer in French. It was a bit of a challenge but I allowed them to 'call a friend' to help and it worked okay as an introduction. We finshed the French session with a game of Dix counting to ten until two are left.
11-12 Amy McKinnon conducted the second session for the grade seven Drug and Alcohol Program. Today the students were divided up into teams to answer quiz type T/F questions about the effects of alcohol on the mind and body. A lively discussion ensued about alcohol consumption and the known consequences of drinking genrally and excessively. It was interesting to hear the questions and answers. The students did a much better job today of listening to each other and participating appropriately.
DEAR time reading- also disrtibuted the April Scholastic book flyers- no obligation to purchase just to see what's available this month.
Social Studies - Introduction to ancient Greece
In 1993 I took a group of high school kids on a Spring Break cultural tour of Greece- with the slides and photos, souvenirs and mementos our class is going to do a VIRTUAL tour of the same areas I visited way back then and they can laugh at my BIG hair and bad sense of style :)
Today we planned our packing for the trip and looked at the general area known as Europe- where we were virtually travelling. So many of the legendary stories of the ancient Greeks come from the sea faring travels of the people. Odysseus was mentioned today- his stories and travels will come later.
Art
finish the banners and posters for the garage and bake sale- NOTE TO SELF- paint and sharpies are apparently too fasciniating for students to keep them on the paper- some students might have come home painted and decorated ???? What's that about? Painterd nails, hands and faces!!! Oh my...
Dismissal
Have a decent evening- have you any 'stuff' for the garage sale? No.
Can you send (buy or bake) some goodies for sale on Saturday? Either or...anything would be welcome. Thanks, Mrs. J.
