I hope I am not losing my mind- I had to try three passwords before I managed to get onto the Blog tonight???
Homework
Sent home practise for adding and subtracting Integers (some completed it in class)
Spelling Unit 17 has some ' spelling 'doozies' and needs careful attention (in my opinion!!)
Encouraging all students to read the novel Dragon Keeper this week (and to complete it over the break).
Reminders:
our Olympic competition events continue tomorrow morning (dress in the 'spirit'- red and white)
please sign and return the camp fundraising form (Thanks to those who already have)
FSA testing will be completed this Wednesday
General Day
Spelling- return Unit 16 and prep Unit17 the 15 words this week have some classic spelling problem words and I have suggested some need to stydy more 'consciously'
I shared a saying that I had heard at a conference (can't remember where!!) :
If you always do what you've always done,
You're always going to get what you've always got
SRA reading lab time next- as we progress through the different levels some are meeting a greater reading challenge and today I felt that it was necessary to encourage students not to worry about their results as much as the challenge. I have noticed students changing answers so they can record better results which obviously defeats the purpose of finding challenge and meeting it!!
Some time for the French clothing assignment was provided- it has kind oof been on the back burner and I'd like to complete it this week.
Early snack before Music with Mrs. McPhee
Math- started a look at putting together the adding and subtracting of integers- did half in class and sent the other half home to be completed. The students say it is boring but I am not sure they all have the skills for subtracting Integers mastered. I'll move into individual evidence tomorow.
DEAR reading time
Personal Planning- Understanding what socio-emotional learning is...didn't quite get to where I though it should although the students were trying to participate!! The entertainment factor is getting in the way of the 'bullying' role-plays we were trying to demonstrate and I know that I have to provide more direction in 'skit' expectation because they are not 'improv' actors!! At this age the role play can denigrate really quickly into physicality!!
Computers saved the afternoon- my lack of computer speakers allowed the students to have 20 minutes free time (which they enjoyed) while I messed with technology, found the web sites which I wanted to display, got them up and running and then realized nobody could hear anything because the speakers were missing- by this time I decided that the students may as well keep doing what they were doing - Who wants to watch anti-bullying commercials now?
I'll get them next time!!
Dismissal
Boy's basketball practice
Until Tuesday
