I guess I can put two together (if I can remember!!).
The class computer was acting up last night and I remember thinking that I could do it at home.
However, I didn't remember it until this morning...
I watched the girls' basketball game at home aginst the Garibaldi Highlnds and they 'owned' the court- they played well and substantially outbasketed the other girls. Nice to see such fast and precise team work- the girls dominated the plays and the turn overs. Good job girls.
I heard that Brennen Park was both busy and fun last night- sorry I missed it but I really needed a Neo Citron and an early bed!! I'm still a bit stuffed up today but I couldn't miss the Olympic torch relay coming past the school. That was very cool and it was all over by 10 past 9am. Blink and you'd have missed it!!
Homework
students have been asked to read the Dragon Keeper- a novel set in ancient China - I gave it out a month or so ago but we have been so busy with other things that I have not (except during silent reading) provided class time for it.
Some are behind on various assignments due to a number of late (or non) arrivals. I have been finding it difficult to keep up with the students who have missed a morning here or an afternoon there and have reminded them that it is their responsibility to find out what they missed and get it caught up. I file missed assignments in their hanging class files.
General Day- Thursday Feb., 4th
spelling test unit 16
info and update on Camp Homewood- parent letter sent home for feedback regarding time for a meeting about fundraising in March
Music with Mrs McPhee
Math subtracting integers- practise and suggestions for finding subtraction by swithching the operation to addition. So -3-(-5)= +2 and -3+(+5)= +2
-3-(+5)= -8 and -3+(-5)= -8
Phys. Ed with Mr. Parker
Dear reading time- most impressive (reminder to all that I am requesting the novel Dragon Keeper be completed for the first week back in March so those who read it in class and on the weekend will be free over the upcoming early spring break :)
Art now putting up a display of the transformational/reflection cards- looks great and have requested that tose incomplete finish asap in class or take it home- some students have become a little 'tired'? of doing it and are not motivated to finished which is so sad becuse they have spent a long time on them and they are good but incomplete. I guess I could put tyhem up in class incomplete but I don't want to encourage students to just give up on their assignments!!
Dismissal 3pm
Quite a few are heading to Brennan Park- it is kind of exciting that the Olympic flame is on its way here.
General Day Friday Feb. 5th
watched the Olympic flame head past the school into Squamish and then down Buckley Ave. It was very exciting for everyone and I have to personally thank the RBC(official sponsor) for those annoying tambourines that I had to listen to for the rest of the day!!! Some students made them into turtles, some picked them apart but for the majority of the day they were shaken, rattled and rolled (a little like me!!!) and played on like a drum. Yeah, thanks (not!)
DPA we played a couple of different versions of dodgeball -most enjoy it but there are always a couple of students have difficulty with being honmest about being 'hit' and going out and those who like to whip the ball too hard for friendly fun- we all survived and no one was hurt but we need to clrify some rules!!
Science Review completion for unit 8 and a crossword reviewing the vocabulary of the Earth's Crust unit
Math we played cards practising adding and subtracting integers Red cards = positive/ Black cards =negative and students play a card consecutively - the first to call the answer gets a point -play until 20 points are accumulated. The kids were loud but everyone was doing some mental arithmetic with cards using integers...Shhh don't tell them!!
Dear reading time (pretty good with the exception of the tambourines!!)
Art more students are ready now to do the Egyptian profiles- using a male or female figure - designing clothing and adornments that are Egyptian style. Some are looking great already- they are so talented and I am so fortunate that the ideas I have can come to reality through thier talent. So cool!!
Computers- I negotiated (bribed) with them for a free time block and they all seemed to use it wisely while I started the blog incase I forgot again!!!
finish up, clean up, lost and found, chairs up, boys' basketball practice, and reminders for next week and homework.
Whew! What a week- I need another weekend!!
See everyone Monday if I'm better!!
Mrs. J.
