Staff meeting tonight- I also finally decided to get the H1N1 shot!! Grade seven FSA exams are coming up very soon as we need to have them completed by the mid February (before the 12th).
Homework
Spelling test tomorrow (Unit 12)
socials project progress work- notetaking should be close to completion and students need to be beginning to write up the paragraphs
General Day
I moved math to the morning hour 9-10am. We managed to make good progress on the concept of describing transformations called translations in which original coordinates and geometric shapes are moved according to a code which asks for the point to move left or right and up or down. We are still using the coordinate grid to make the moves precise. Rulers and more precision is necessary for accuracy in plotting new coordinates.
Socials times for research and resources use.
French- les parties du corps (body parts) mot croisee (crossword)
DEAR time- used much more wisely today
Science- What is the difference between a divergent and a convergent boundary (plate tectonics), what is the theory of plate tectonics and how id it different from ther earlier theory of continental drift? Why would volcanoes be more likely to be found at a sunbduction zone?
Such are the questions we are trying to find the answers to in science today... it was a hard sell- students (and teacher) were tired by 2pm!!
Art- new project- using the theories of the math unit we have been working on this week, we are applying the concepts of translation, reflection and rotation to create 11x17 posters featuring the magnified faces of the Jack, Queen and King of different card suits. The idea of reproducing them is to analyse the tranformation of the lines and shapes to ensure they are the same at the top and the bottom of the poster. Today we practices with some easier options: the ace, 5 of Hearts and the 7 of clubs or spades. Students noticed that their hand-eye coordination was challenged and that they needed to really focus and pay attention to detail to make a 'good' reproduction. Face cards and bigger paper will be given out tomorrow.
FYI
It is time for a seating change (again) - some groups are not functioning very well anymore.
Until tomorrow.
Mrs. J.
