Twas the night B4 the last day of school!!

Well- we made it through Thursday Dec 17th the night after the concert. The students were tired but we had a good day.

There is no homework :)

The spelling bee went well although I will make a few changes to the next one specifically by allowing one 'free' round to quell everyone's nerves. I always feel so bad to say 'ding' your out in the first round as I can see and feel the disppointment. However, I do believe it is a life skill to learn to 'lose' well but still one free round will allow a second chance for those who mess up because of nerves!!
The students were GREAT!! They have learned to be a very gracious audience and it so rewarding to be able to do these kinds of activities and have the students enjoy it even if they chose not to actually participate. Surinder did the checking and rang the bell if a word was spelled incorrectly and Kai was our dictionary man looking up definitions and etymology if needed!! So cool. Me, I was the hostess with the deaf right ear (my ear was making weird noises and I misheard the spelling letters a couple of times before I decided to have the participants use the microphone!!)
Our first classroom spelling bee awards were won by Emily 1st prize, 2nd to Sarah, 3rd to Adrian and 4th to Natalie. Congratulations. Thank-you to all my keen participants and for following the general expectations so well. "Impressed, I am" (Yoda)
The students have asked for more spelling bee opportunities and were even keen to do it again when I explained that I could not afford those kinds of prizes for every spelling bee. This was a Christmas special!

General Day
prepped for the spelling bee
read a chapter from novel The Dragon Keeper we're not really into it yet as there has been too much going on and some interruptions to our schedule
music games with Mrs. McPhee (while I planned the BEE)
11-12 we conducted the spelling bee
there was floor hockey provided for the grade 6/7's at lunch - I supervised the boys who wanted a jam session in the music room at lunch - noisy but they're pretty good!!
after lunch we went to the gym and watched a movie called Santa Clause 3 with all the intermediate students. It was off the scale cheesy but the students seemed to enjoy it and it was a nice break to sit down together and laugh at Martin Short playing an evil Jack Frost.
We had a few minutes to discuss our day tomorrow RED and GREEN spirit day - class with the most participatoion gets a popcorn reward so dig out your elf gear (or at least a hat).
Tomorrow is the last day before the holiday.
See everyone tomorrow.
Mrs J.
