Well it's 4:45pm and I have just finished clearning up from the last few days of high spirits and the good news is we all survived :)
The only thing I have asked the students to do over the holiday is work on getting information and doing some research for the Socials project due January 20th, 2010.
I had asked them all, to take home their project outlines but I know for a fact with so many absent and leaving early today that not everyone has it SO not to be outdone, I will see about learning how to post it on this Blog site for everyone to access. You can thank me later- when it gets posted!! LOL
Many thanks to the students who brought me some thank-you gifts - they were really thoughtful and much appreciated. Thank-you also to the students and parents who contributed to our class munchies- all were well consumed and even though the students were too busy to say thank-you, I know they are grateful. One of my new year's resolutions is to work collectively on our manners!!
Our day began in the gym with a couple of games of European handball- I need to really teach the proper rules - today was like handball by braille!!!
Next we spent 40 minutes at computers - some used it for social studies!!! (I did offer free time - what was I thinking?)
From there we did an art and 'social' project (they colour and talk and eat) and they managed to do this for nearly an hour!!
After lunch we did some time for reading as we all needed a bit of quiet time - it wasn't exactly silent but it was nice and quiet for ten minutes!!
I had them play a goofy relay game in which they try to open chocolate treats with gloves on - they didn't have much trouble. I think they enjoyed it- a bit of teamwork but the teams snuck closer and closer to the treat tables until I had them all take a giant step back!!
I tried a class community circle but it was too late in the day and too much candy was driving them to really conduct the discussion with any seriousness although some of us tried!!
We finished with some Christmas carols in the gym- a sing-along. And behold the day was done.
YEAH- I am tired.
We had an interesting day. I swear they could pretty much eat and talk all day!! How do you keep them fed?
Have a wonderful Christmas time and enjoy some family time. I wish you all some peace and rest and to remember it's not supposed to be about those gifts that many of us haven't had the chance to buy yet!! At the end of the day, it is time to conut our blessings - God bless us everyone. Until the New Year- I'm signing off. Merry Christmas (Joyeux Noel) and, as we say in Scotland on New Years, "lang may yer lum reek" which means "may there always be a log in your fireplace" Happy New Year!!
Mrs. J.
