Tuesday, November 3rd

It's getting dark already!! Today was busy!

I have explained to the students generally (and to those who have been away from school recently- nearly one third of my class!!!) the importance of getting caught up with assignments.
I have until Monday 16th to submit my term 1 reports and need time to assess.

Homework

Novel assignments for the independent project
spelling test Thursday for Unit 7 (unit 5 redo tomorrow- we did unit 6 redo today)
complete brainstorm activity (pre-writing ) for the steps to civilization paragraphs that we will do at computers tomorrow
For those who have been away (add)
science booklets for chapter seven (review test Friday)
French- haunted houses to be completed and labelled en francais
Math - complete the solutions to the BEDMAS problem solving worksheet and complee any other missed activities prior to that assignment (LET ME KNOW if further instruction is necessary)
Reminders
Remembrance Day posters and /or literary (poems, essays) due Nov 18th
November/December Scholastic orders (if any) by mid-month (Nov 16-18th)

Day in general
  • read a chapter from out read aloud novel to start the day
  • spelling study for Unit 7 and missed tests (redo Unit 6 this afternoon)
  • Novel study class time- finding myself having to redirect some students who seem to think they have more time than they have- reminded them they have until Monday- I would rather have three well done assignments than four or five sloppy ones!!
  • For French we tried a language game that has the students practicing les parties de la maison- J'achete une maison. Dans ma maison il y a ... (I have bought a house. In my house there is/are... The students add features to the house going around the class in French. They had one wall, five roofs, no bathroom, 2000 windows, 20 fridges etc. It was getting silly and the students were really trying on the French and were doing a good and funny job- great laugh.
  • Next we had some time for family groups- we named my family group - the Skreaming Skeletons after Michelle Bartellman (?) who visited our school a couple of years ago- my class was in grade 5 then. She does the sport of Skeleton at the Olympic level. Have you ever seen it? You suit up and lie tummy down head first on a tiny sled and hurtle down an ice track at speeds that defy gravity. It's crazy- I'll stick to curling :)
  • For math we completed the review of the sectionShare for BEDMAS problem solving. It is amazing how a place ment of brackets can mess up or change an answer!!
  • Phys Ed this afternoon with Mr P. (while I did French with his class.
  • DEAR time (redid spelling tests- thanks to Amrit for her help:))
  • brainstorming for our socals paragraph was next using the visual flow charts to explain the progress of civilization (are we progressing? would be an interesting discussion to have with them!! Maybe later)
  • Art- haunted houses are now due - Halloween is so last week- just reminded students to label them in French
  • Dismaissal time after a run through of the homework and mini-lecture about getting caught up with things- what can I say some take it more seriously than others!!

Have a wonderful (dark) Tuesday night. Oh, by the way, the girl's did a fabulous job tonight and won all three of their games at home- I'm sorry I didn't get to the gym but I had a parent with me after school. See you tomorrow.

Mrs. J.
