We had another busy and, I think, productive day (although there are always a few students who have difficulty settling to time for independent work especially when they are fuelled by sugar overload!!). Many students had a buzz of enegry no doubt left over from either Halloween spoils or the full moon last night (which by the way was beautiful :)).
It was good to see some students back to school- Cassandra and I are offering 1-1 time for organization and help especially for students who have been away ill and are finding it overwhelming knowing what to concentrate on first. Time is ticking away for the first reporting period!
Homework tonight
All students have independent novel activities that they have personally chosen and have until Monday Nov. 9th to complete (unless they have been away ill. For those students, an extended date of Nov. 12th is as late as I can allow if the work is to be included in the Term 1 report card)
Spelling redo of unit 6 tomorrow- study needed
Unit 7 spelling test Thursday Nov 5th
November reminders to students and FYI for parents
November 10th school's Remembrance Day Assembly
November 11th stat - school is not in session
November 16th Term 1 reports due to the office
November 18th Remembrance Day posters due to the Local legion
November Term 1 Report Cards out to students
November 25th and 26th Parent-Teacher Interviews (2pm Dismissal)
General Day
- As usual on Mondays, Spelling Unit 6 was returned and Unit 7 prepped for- test this Thursday for words the next 15 on the list from conscientiously to desert
- Time in class was given at two separate times today for students to work on their novel activities- 40 minutes in the morning and another half hour this afternoon at the computers
- Music with Mrs McPhee this morning
- French- les parties de la maison
- Math- we did an activity called TPS (Think, Pair, Share) using the rules of BEDMAS we looked at first independently (Think) at some written problems which required BEDMAS rules to be followed to solve accurately. Then students partner up (Pair) and help each other solve and show the necessary working. Finally we share (Share) answers and solve them together. This needs a follow up tomorrow as we only made a start on the SHARE and solve part.
- DEAR time to either read or (for the next couple of weeks only) work on novel project activities quietly and independently.
- For socials today we reviewed the step by step progression of human endeavour and activities that led to the first river civiliations being developed- this activity is a written one that we 'brainstormed today (pre-writing) and which needs more time than we had in class today to finish- tomorrow we will complete it.
- Library exchange and a half hour at computers rounded out our day. Then it was planners and dismissal time.
Have a great evening even though it's getting darker early and try to get caught up if you are behind or at least advance your novel project.
Mrs J.
