TGIF October 16th, 2009

Well, let me tell you all I am glad it is Friday...what a crazy day ...not only was it 'crazy hair day' with popcorn for sale but it was our first forced in-day too with the weather so wet at lunch time!!! Let's just say the students had more energy than I did and by the day's end I was fit to be tied trying to get them all ready willing and able to get the work they need to get done for the weekend all packed up. Today I did a cloakroom clean too at the end of the day and was surprised that most of the laundry basket full of clothing, shoes etc belonged to two students!!!!

Anyway here I am at the end of the day reflecting in my empty classroom and getting ready to prep for next week and what do I do? I wreck my Homework poster by trying to clean off the dry erase surface with a wet cloth!!! Duh...there is a reason it is Dry Erase- water not only set the pen and made it adhere like permanent ink but thinkng I would help my cause by sticking it under the tap only sogged the poster beyond all help. So- I now need to find a new home for a Homework section- everything happens for a reason- just darned if I can figure out the reasons half the time!!

Day In general
  • Good participation in the spirit of crazy hair day and lots of energy!!! :)
  • DPA in gym was high energy- I tried some of my fitness routine exercises on them with interesting results!!
  • we did the unit 4 spelling test and the reading for chapter 7.2 in the Science text to follow up our rock and minerals lab on Wednesday.
  • Math- today was game day (no point in trying to teach a new concept with five students away- cards, poker (Texas Hold 'em), Yhatzee, Chess, checkers, dominoes and Rumolli- games are an excellent way to have students practice math and strategy skills. I do a game day once a month.
  • DEAR time was used by some to get caught up as I gave that option today- it was a relatively quiet half hour for reading and /or catching up on semi-completed assignments
  • Sarah used her digital camera to get a picture of all the students with their crazy hair and was willing to print and bring in copies (for 25c) of the picture for the students who want one. Thanks Sarah :)
  • I used approx. 20 minutes to do a quick desk and binder clean/organization so that all 'homeless papers' were filed for fast finding. Everyone's desk is (well nearly everyone) organized and ready for another week.
  • At computers I took them to a science web site associated with the publisher of our textbook www.mcgrawhill.ca/links/BCscience7 and we did the Chapter 7 section 1 quiz as well as visited the Internet connect section and the 'cool things to see and do'. Both our math and science texts have web components and we will be doing some labs, quizzes and related work on-line.
  • planners, pack up and a quick game finished a bit of a high energy day.

Hope everyone has a great weekend. See everyone Monday. I hope all my absent students get well soon- I have a copy of the work you missed so not to worry.

Mrs. J.
