Friday September 4th

So we have all made it through the first week of school. I am looking forward to getting my senior students in class next week.

Meanwhile...

I am working hard with the grade ones- it is their first week of full days at school and they are pretty tired by the afternoon. For the most part though they are handling it well- we have learned songs (Moonshadow, The Cat Came Back, Puff the Magic Dragon), read stories and illustrated them (Chester, Grandpa's Teeth, The Crayon box that Talked, The Old lady that swallowed a Fly among them), we have reviewed alphabet and numbers to 10 with line guides and games and played some classic games in gym (Duck, Duck, Goose- which the boys changed to Car, Car, Truck!! and What's the Time Mr. Wolf among them). They dance well too- as a matter of fact, they are a very creative and ryhthmic class. :) We have completed some bug math and had a look at how adding numbers together in patterns creates multiples. As you can probably tell I am a little out of my teaching element but it is great professional development. Thanks to all the parents, support staff and staff who have encouraged me and provided me with resources at the appropriate level.

Thanks also to my son who provided all the games and toys for our afternoon Centre time. They loved the Hotwheels, the Sponge Bob games and the stick-it, build it things. I am very grateful that Mrs. Lapointe taught them all to share and clean up beforehand :)

I appreciated that 45 grade 6/7 students returned the permission forms and came to Camp Summit on Wednesday. I think evryone had fun there and we had a good day weather wise. Camp Summit is an amazing facility. I would consider an overnight trip there for the students in the spring if there is enough interest. I had a great day and it was a nice way to get to know students at the beginning of the year. Thank-you.

Have a great weekend everyone. See you after the long weekend.
Mrs. J.
