Wednesday April 8th

Hope every one has a safe and happy Easter Break.

Tomorrow is a professional development day- I will be taking time to look a little more in depth at the new math curriculum and the resource from North Vancouver called Math44.

The lollipop orders went home today- hope every one was happy. Thank-you for the support.

The girls tied their floor hockey game yesterday- the boy's won theirs :) Great start to the season.

I have set no homework for the break. Hopefully they'll be ready to get back into working hard after a five day break!!

Today we completed our final gymnastics class. We have now started our puberty and sexual development unit and have had some interesting discussion and great questions. I will be using a resource called More Speaking of Sex written by Meg Hickling R.N. (Mrs. Paxton's mom).
My lessons are an amalgamation of three resources one from the Calgary Health Region (Teaching Sexual Health), another from a workshop I did in our district 2004 with Joy BeckerR.N. B.S.N. for Middle School teachers teaching sexual health and the third from an on-line resource from Ontario. Today we discussed the signs and 'symptoms' of puberty and considered the social and emotional impact of this time in a person's life. The students had some interesting insights. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.

After Easter we will be practising for our Voices of Nature performance- we have been listening and doing our best to sing along with the songs but Holly's range is definitely out of our league!!

Hope you enjoyed the information and tour of HSSS last night the students were quite excited telling me about their evening. Seemingly the cafeteria cookies werea BIG hit :) On April 20th the vice principal and grade eight counsellor will be visiting our class.
Have a nice break everyone.
